Principal's Message

Dear Terra Linda Families,

I hope you've had a good first week of school! It's been great to see and hear our students "in class" with their teachers.


Next Wednesday is our Curriculum Night. You can attend the 6:30 or the 7:05 session. Both will be the same. Also, we will record the first session and send it out to families who are unable to attend. For those who need an interpreter, we will be sure to have one available at one of the sessions. Liz and Maria in our office will contact you with the session time that will have an interpreter.


Most families have a BSD Device at home for their child(ren) to use. Please be sure you have arranged for Damage/Loss Protection Coverage. It is only $20 per year. It is free if your family is eligible for Meal Benefits, but you must still request the coverage. Contact Liz at Terra Linda if you need assistance: 503-356-2490.


We know there is a lot of information coming out to you, both from our school and from teachers. Thank you for taking the time to read through everything. And remember, anytime you have questions, please call our office and we can help you. Thank you for partnering with us this fall!

Student Attendance and Engagement

Students are expected to be engaged in learning five days a week. We will encourage full participation; however, the reality of the pandemic requires flexibility on how a student demonstrates meeting that expectation. For example, a student may attend a live teacher-led session, watch a teacher-recorded video, interact with the teacher via email, and/or post completed coursework.


If your child is not able to participate in any aspect of distance learning on a school day, please call the attendance line. (503-356-2491) We also recommend you contact your child(ren)'s teacher via email.


Staff will take attendance each day by 4:00pm. Students who did not engage in any aspect of distance learning that day will be marked absent. Auto-Dialer messages will begin around 4:45pm each day beginning September 21. Your family will be contacted via auto-dialer if the parent/guardian did not contact the school and your child(ren) did not engage in any aspect of distance learning.

Schedules at Home

As you prepare for each week, it is a good idea to put together a daily schedule for your child. For our younger students, you will need to do this for them. Below is a link to visuals that you could print to help build this schedule (or you can draw pictures yourself by using these as a model). For older students, they should be able to list out their own schedule for the week.


The Zones of Regulation templates can be really helpful too! Teachers talk with students about Zones, and having a visual way to identify our Zone can be easier than using words.

Reserve Library Books from the Terra Linda Library

Students can go online and place a hold on library books they want to check out. Any books placed on hold by Monday each week will be available for pick-up from Terra Linda on Thursday that week from 11:00-12:00. If you cannot drive through our parking lot during this time window, please call our office to make other arrangements.

It is best if each student logs into Destiny on their own device.

Multilingual Family Night

Our first meeting this year will be Thursday, October 1 at 6:30pm. If you are planning to attend and need an interpreter, please contact us by phone or text so we can arrange an interpreter.


We will focus on helping families with resources for Comprehensive Distance Learning and answer your questions.


Any family who speaks a language other than English at home is welcome to attend, even if you are also fluent in English!

Math Fluency Explained

Stay In The Know

We use the SchoolMessenger notification system to send automated phone calls, emails and texts to parents, guardians, students and staff. These messages include return-to-school information, important messages and reminders, attendance notifications and inclement weather messages. Visit the BSD SchoolMessenger webpage for more information.

Zoom Privacy Guidelines

To maintain a positive, productive learning environment and ensure privacy of students and teachers during Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL), all parents/guardians/students are asked to follow these guidelines:


  • Please don’t video record, audio record, photograph, livestream or transmit in any other way any part of a Zoom virtual classroom session. This restriction includes social media posting.

  • Any confidential or personally identifiable information related to students participating in Zoom virtual classroom sessions should not be collected, discussed or shared.

When you come to Terra Linda, please ring the doorbell on our front door and we will step outside to assist you. You can also call us at 503-356-2490 when you arrive. At this time, only BSD staff can be inside our District Facilities. Thank you for understanding.
