When was it created

The space age began Oct.4,1957 when the soviet union launched sputnik 1, the first man-made satellite.

A year later the united states congress passed the National Aeronautics ans Space act to promote and coordinate an effective United States space program.

NASA also was responsible for the development and launching of a number of satellites with earth applications,such as landsat,a series designed to collect information on natural resources and other earth features; communication satellites and weather satellites.


Important People

Since it was found,NASA has made many striking successes and some tragedies.

In 1961 Alan Shephard was the first american sent into space.

In 1969 Neil Armstrong was the first man set foot on the moon.

The following year John Glenn became the first american to orbit the earth

The agency's first tragedy was the death of Apollo 1 astronauts:
