Online Verification & Residency Is OPEN
Online Verification & Residency for the 21-22 school year is now open! Every year, all Park Hill families are required to visit the Campus Parent portal to verify student demographic, health, and emergency contact information, and submit proof of residency documents for the upcoming school year. Please check your mailbox – we recently mailed a letter and “Getting Started” guide so you can jump right in and get this process completed. You can access a digital copy of the guide on our website.
Note: Only a legal guardian living with a current student in their household can prove residency and complete verification for that student.
Attending Summer School? Complete Verification by May 7!
For the first time, Park Hill families can enroll for summer school through the same online form used to complete online verification and residency. If you have children in kindergarten through eighth grade who plan to attend summer school, please complete your verification prior to May 7 so we can properly process their summer school enrollment.
If you don’t have a Campus Parent account:
Contact the front office at 359-4390. We can send you a unique access code – Campus Parent setup instructions can be found here.
If you need to enroll a new student or kindergartner for 21-22:
You DO NOT need to complete a separate enrollment application if you have other students currently enrolled in the district. There will be an option in the verification form to add new students – please enter your new student(s) there.
If your new kindergartner is a current Gerner student, they will show up in the verification form: you DO NOT need to add them as a new student.
For more detailed instructions on adding a new student, see the “Getting Started” guide. Contact any school office if you have questions about this process.
If you need help verifying or have questions:
Contact Angie Linard, Hawthorn's Registrar. Her contact information is found below:

Kindergarten OPEN HOUSE-- Sign Up NOW!
If you have a child who will start Kindergarten in August, please join us for an Open House on Thursday, May 6th, between 5:00 and 7:30. You will be able to meet the kindergarten teachers, tour the school, visit with our staff, and learn more about kindergarten at Hawthorn. We are inviting families to sign up for a 30 minute scheduled visit so that we can ensure that everyone will have an opportunity to enjoy the open house without having a large number of visitors at once. Your kindergarten student and two adult guests will be able to join us for this event. When signing up, each family should just sign up for ONE SLOT. We are looking forward to meeting our newest Huskies!

Health Room Reminders
Our nurses have provided the reminders below about the procedure for receiving and administering medications during school hours. The district has these guidelines to ensure we are receiving, storing, documenting, and administering medications in a safe, consistent, and professional manner.
- Medications need to be brought in by the parent/guardian, not sent with student. This includes cough drops.
- A Medication Authorization form must be signed by the parent/guardian before nurses are allowed to administer the medication. This form is provided as an attachment below.
- Medication must be in an appropriately labeled container. Do not send loose medication in a plastic baggie.
- Medication must not be expired.
- Prescription medications labels must be current and include the student’s name and instructions for administration including dosage.
- Over the counter medications must be appropriate for the student. For example, please only send Children’s Tylenol or Children’s Ibuprofen.
- If your student needs to bring an albuterol inhaler, please also bring in your student’s Asthma Action Plan provided by your physician.
Antigen Testing for Students
On January 4, the Park Hill School District started offering antigen testing to students who have COVID-19 symptoms.
If your child is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and you want to have them tested, here are the guidelines:
1. Your child must be a student in Park Hill School District.
2. Your child must have symptoms for 48 hours.
3. Call the school health room, at (816) 359-4394. After going over symptoms, you will be referred to the Antigen Testing Center (816) 359-5326, if it is determined your child should be tested.
4. Click and print this consent form: Consent Form
Please contact the Hawthorn Health Room if your child has had an exposure or symptoms of COVID, or if you have any health or wellness concerns at any time.
COVID-19 Communication & Information
We are taking every precaution we can to try to keep our students and our staff safe during this COVID-19 pandemic.
We appreciate all you are doing to help us in our efforts to protect our Park Hill community.
This plan is likely to change as more information becomes available and as we continue to follow the latest guidance of public health officials. We will notify you when we update our plans.
Please remember that Park Hill sends weekly communication about COVID-19 cases. This information can also be found HERE. We will always notify parents if children were in direct contact at school with someone who tested positive or if there is a positive case at Hawthorn.
Current Mask Guidelines At Hawthorn
In Park Hill, students and staff members must wear masks anytime they are in the same room as someone else, including PE and recess.
When picking out masks for yourself and your child, the CDC recommends that you choose masks that have two or more layers of washable, breathable fabric, wear masks that completely cover your nose and mouth, and wear masks that fit snug against the sides of your face. If you choose to wear reusable masks, be sure to regularly wash them.

Resources From Our School Social Worker
MENTAL HEALTH AMERICA: This website provides resources and support and works to support mental health for all. Whether you need information to read, a webinar in order to learn more, or other forms of support, this resource is valuable.
COVID-19 and Mental Health Infographic: Click on the download below to get more information. While we are familiar with viruses like the common cold and the flu, the coronavirus (COVID-19) is new and presents a situation that none of us could have imagined a few short months ago. The fact that it is extremely contagious has resulted in business closures, social distancing, and quarantine measures which have disrupted our daily lives. It is more important now than ever to pay attention to mental health during this time of isolation and uncertainty.
Park Hill Clothing Center: We have a wonderful resource close to "home". The PTA of the Park Hill School District runs a clothing center that provides free, gently used clothing and new socks and underwear to district students. The PTA Clothing Center serves all Park Hill School District students from kindergarten through 12th grade, and the PTA asks you to bring some proof that you are enrolled in a Park Hill school. This could be a student ID, bus pass, dated letter from a principal or social worker, class schedule or enrollment form. If you are interested in visiting the clothing center to shop for your child, use the link to sign up: SHOP AT CLOTHING CENTER
Confidential Resource Checklist: If you are in need of additional resources, please use this link: Hawthorn Confidential Resource Request to let us know how we can help.
Cafeteria Information
Meals are free for all children, ages 18 and under, through the end of this school year.
While meals are FREE, if your child needs an individual milk to go with a lunch brought from home, our cafeteria has to charge $.60 for the drink.
We have two meal pickup options available for students who are learning from home. For both options, you must pre-order before picking up your food.
Click HERE for more detailed information about how to pre-order if your students are learning online, where the pick-up locations are, etc.
Stay Connected
Communication is very important to your child’s success at school and we want to keep you informed of what is going on at Hawthorn. Please remember communication is a two-way process and you are encouraged to get in touch with your child’s teacher or Mrs. Renton and Mrs. Bishop as needed. We will use electronic communication frequently, so if you do not have access to a computer at home, please be sure to contact your child’s teacher to let them know, so they can send you information in your child’s backpack. We don’t want you to miss important information.
