PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
On Monday, Nov. 1st, you received an email from your classroom teacher indicating it was time to sign up for Parent Teacher Conferences! Parentvue is now closed for signing up for conferences. If you still haven't signed up, please email your child's teacher to find a time. If you forgot your time, please go into Parentvue, click on "Conferences" on the left side of the screen. After that click on "Parent Teacher Conferences". In the upper right corner, click on "Parent Scheduled Conferences" to view the schedule. Your assigned time will be displayed in the upper right corner and also will be highlighted in green on the schedule. Just remember that Parent/Teacher Conferences are in-person.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES (COVID PROTOCOLS)
Parents/guardians who attend parent/teacher conferences are expected to comply with the governor’s mask mandate, which requires all visitors to school buildings to wear face masks. School administrators are responsible for ensuring this protocol is followed in their buildings. Visitors who do not comply will be asked to leave the building. Parents/guardians will not be subject to the expectations for volunteers and do NOT need to submit proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.
LOST AND FOUND
COVID PROTOCOL FOR OVER THANKSGIVING BREAK
Quick reminder from health office to consider over the Thanksgiving week off from school.
If your student has any Covid-like illness symptoms (Fever (100.4°F or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, new loss of sense of taste or smell, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches from unknown cause), or has been considered a close contact, please consider taking your student to be tested for Covid. CVS/Walgreens or Curative.com are sites for testing. If your student or anyone in your household tests positive for Covid over the break, please email me Ajkeegan@d47.org or leave me a voicemail 815-788-5555, I will check both periodically over the break. As with any illness, student's need to be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication and free from vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
Blessings for a Healthy, Happy and restful Thanksgiving week,
Mrs. Keegan
EXTRA FACE MASKS
Reminder: Inclement Weather
District 47 families received a message about winter weather and planning for possible school closings in early November. Should schools need to close due to inclement weather, District 47 students will be utilizing the emergency “snow day” in the school calendar as we did prior to COVID.
WEST'S GIVING TREE
A "Giving Tree" has been placed in our school lobby, offering two special ways to help our community. The Salvation Army Angel Tree tags will be available to select a special gift to purchase for a child living in our community, one who might not otherwise receive a gift this holiday. (Unwrapped gifts are returned to school with the tag attached by Friday, December 17th.)
Please also consider selecting a gold star from the tree to purchase gift cards from local businesses to help provide for our West families as needed throughout the year - not just at the holidays. Thank you for helping to support West School’s Giving Tree this year, spreading joy and happiness this holiday season.
NEW: "ELEVATE' STAFF RECONITION PROGRAM
NEW: “ELEVATE” STAFF RECOGNITION PROGRAM
District 47 is launching a new district wide staff recognition program called Elevate during the 2021-22 school year. The goal of the program is to identify and recognize District 47 employees who, in their contributions and service to the district, uphold and exemplify the district’s mission, vision and core values and who are making a difference in the lives of our students, schools and community.
Anyone (students, staff, parents or community members) can submit a nomination and any District 47 staff member is eligible for recognition. Click here to nominate someone you know! Nominations will be reviewed by the district’s recognition committee. Elevate nominees and winners selected by the committee will be recognized three times a year at District 47 board meetings (November, February and April) and on social media.
Thank you for helping us “raise the bar” for educational excellence! Questions about the program can be directed to Denise Barr, director of communications and public engagement, at dcbarr@d47.org.
THANK YOU!!!
THANK YOU to all of our wonderful students, parents, grandparents, teachers, and WPO volunteers that helped make our Scholastic Book Fair a big success!
Profits from your purchases were used to buy new books and resources for our school library. In addition, you helped build classroom libraries through our "Classroom Wish List" program. We were also able to purchase Birthday Books for every West student.
I would like to say a very special thank you to the amazing Book Fair Co-Chairs: Stephanie Belsha Maldonado & Stephanie McHugh! We couldn’t have done this without your organization, creativity, and energy. Awesome job, ladies!
Thanks again for your support and sharing your love of reading with the children in our community! #westisbest
WEE DELIVER NEEDS VOLUNTEERS
We have a wonderful in-school mail delivery program! Students can write letters to siblings, friends in other classes, teachers and Whiskers! In order for our mail system to be efficient, we rely on our 3rd and 4th graders! Our 4th graders have jobs as the Facer, Nixie Clerk, Sorter and Postmaster. The 3rd graders are Carriers and Carrier Supervisors. 3rd and 4th graders who are interested will be bringing home their information about Wee Deliver, application and a study guide today.
Mrs. Hui and Mrs. Womac will be supporting our Wee Deliver Program. However, to make it successful we also need parent volunteers. Any parent who would like to volunteer is welcome! Volunteers will oversee the 3rd and 4th graders and help them with their duties. Wee Deliver is looking for a few more volunteers to help support this wonderful program. We have revamped the schedule to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We are looking for 1-2 volunteers per shift per day to work the same day each week as well as a couple substitutes per day. Please click here to sign up.
If you have any questions, please contact Rachel Hui at rachel.hui@gmail.com.
