Third Grade Fire Safety Program
We had a visit from a Framingham Fire Fighter! He talked to us about fire safety and the importance of having a meeting place for the family in case there's a need to evacuate the home. The students were encouraged to discuss this with their family and to create a map/meeting place and share it with all members of the family. The officer also discussed the importance of having working fire alarms/carbon monoxide detectors in the home. He stated that if you don't have any, you may call the fire station and he will actually come to your home to install them for free.

Operation Warm partners with TJX to host event to give a new coat to every McCarthy student!!
Working with the team at Operation Warm, TJX has selected and will sponsor and participate in the donation of a winter coat to every McCarthy School student!!
A little about Operation Warm:
"Operation Warm is a national nonprofit that creates brand new, high-quality coats and shoes for children in need. Every child, regardless of their economic situation, deserves brand new coats and shoes. We partner with compassionate individuals and organizations across North America to give a gift of warmth, confidence and hope to millions of children in need. Operation Warm believes a brand-new coat is more than that, promoting self-esteem, school attendance and outdoor play."
The McCarthy Gifting Event will be held on Thursday, November 17th, at McCarthy Elementary School. Operation Warm will donate up to 570 Coats sponsored by TJX, with volunteers from Operation Warm and TJX distributing coats to students in an organized and timely fashion while promoting a fun, memorable, and professional atmosphere. TJX expects up to 65 employee volunteers to participate in the gifting event!
Get excited McCarthy School as this is an amazing event for all- students, staff, and volunteers!

INFORMATION RE: BULLYING AND BULLYING PREVENTION
Framingham Public Schools and the staff at McCarthy Elementary School are committed to providing a safe and healthy school environment. Bullying of any type is a major distraction from learning and has no place in a school setting.
What is Bullying?
Massachusetts Bullying Statute states that...
Bullying is the repeated use by one or more students or by a member of a school staff of a written, verbal or electronic expression or a physical act or gesture or any combination thereof, directed at a victim that:
- causes physical or emotional harm to the victim or damage to the victim's property
- places the victim in reasonable fear of harm to themself or of damage to their property
- creates a hostile environment at school for the victim
- infringes on the rights of the victim at school; or
- materially and substantially disrupts the education process of the orderly operation of a school.
October was Bullying Prevention month and students at McCarthy and all over FPS engaged in learning through their bully prevention unit. This unit provided students with the language and knowledge to better understand how to recognize what bullying is and is not, how to report bullying, how to refuse bullying and how to be a bystander.
