PTO Buzz
A big thanks to everyone who helped make the Hornung Color Run a great success. The kids had a blast! Thank you to parents and sponsors, we exceeded our fundraising goals for the school!
The PTO is excited to announce the addition of 2 brand new basketball nets on the playground. The existing nets are 10 feet off the ground, and very tough for our smaller basketballers to hit. The new nets can be lowered down to 6-feet and the response has been great. More exciting playground updates are coming this school year!
October 28th will be our Monster Mash/Trunk-or-Treat event in the Hornung bus parking lot from 5:30p-7:30p. There will be grade-level costume contests; food trucks; 50-50 raffle; and DJ Kenny Privett. We’d love it if you’d host a trunk or donated candy. Please register so we can estimate the turn-out. Flyer below.

Thursday, October 13th: Our first Rollerama Fundraiser will be from 5p-7p. If you haven’t been or know, Rollerama is a skate rink & game center on Grand River. They host several “Hornung Nights” and provide a final return to the school. The cost is $9/person which covers admission and roller skate rental.
Thursday the 20th & Friday the 21st will be the Halloween Hornung Hut! Hornung Hut is our little school store day, where kids can buy various Halloween trinkets, gifts, and school supplies that range from 50-cents to $5. More details next week.

Counselor Corner!
Welcome back to another amazing year here at Spencer Elementary. I am so excited to begin working with students this year to help facilitate and promote social-emotional growth and learning! I will be providing classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual support this year.
As a reminder, your school counselor is here to support children with social-emotional concerns that are impacting their success in the classroom. We will begin working with individuals as needs arise within the months of September and October. I look forward to offering small peer groups in October. If your child is struggling at school, we will work together with the classroom teacher to determine whether or not school-based services would be beneficial. We may also be able to offer resources or contacts if your family believes that outside support is an option.
The Elementary Counselor Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your child.
