Fourth Grade Happenings
Into the Swing of Things
We are well into our routines and procedures. Students seem to understand homework routines and the ins and outs of daily schedule. If the kids seem uncertain about assignments or due dates, feel free to e-mail me so I can alleviate confusion. Homework has been really off to a great start. Their Reading Logs were most impressive :) I hope the good, solid effort continues!
Writing Workshop
The students have been enjoying crafting stories about favorite people, places, and things. This will be our springboard into our first official writing piece. It will be a personal narrative based on a favorite memory. These will be scored using the Pennsylvania Writing Assessment Scoring Guide. Students are assessed in the 5 domains : focus, content, organization, style, and conventions.
Log-In Cards
We have successfully created our official log-in cards. They are coming home today. I am asking children to leave them in their assignment book so they know where they are at all times. On one side of the card you will see their account information and the on the other side is a brief description of the websites that we use. I have an additional copy at school. If it becomes misplaced, let me know as we can photocopy my card. They will often have work to do on a site or reading to complete online. If accessing a computer is difficult in your home, please let me know and we will make accommodations.
Unit One Math Test on September 25
We will have our first math test next week. Kids can begin reviewing by revisiting all of the vocabulary and study links we have completed thus far. A review sheet will come home with them on Monday. On each assessment this year there is also a Problem Solving component. Our first strategy is Finding a Pattern. Their homework tonight corresponds with that strategy.
Learntci.com
Students have access to our Social Studies text at home now! Please allow them time to review chapters at home during free time. They can also read the text and count it as Reading time. We have begun taking notes in class and students will be allowed to use their notes during quizzes. We have read up to section 1.5 as of this afternoon. Thanks for your help with this.
BRIDGE VALLEY DAY
Don't forget to wear your school colors and cross your fingers that our class wins the water ice party!!!
