MODIFIED FORMAT for OPEN HOUSE

As you know, due to the ongoing pandemic, construction activities, and lack of parking at SJH, our Open House must be conducted "virtually". The format has been modified slightly from a virtual meeting format to a pre-recorded video format. We hope this method will provide you with increased flexibility in managing family commitments.


An email will be sent Tuesday afternoon with a welcome video from our administration and instructions on how to access the videos. You may view the welcome message and teacher videos at your convenience beginning Tuesday evening. Students are welcome to view the videos with you and have been instructed by their teachers on the format and process.


You will need a PARENT PORTAL account if your student will not be available. If you will be viewing the videos with your student, you and your student may access the videos through the student's Blackboard account.


If you do not have a Parent Portal Account, go to the district website www.sycamoreschools.org. Click on the Parent Portal icon at the top (an apple) and then select “Create a Parent Portal Account”. Only legal guardians are permitted a Parent Portal account, and all account requests go through an approval process which may take up to 1 business day. Sycamore Junior High has many ways for your child to get involved! Clubs and activities do not begin until several weeks after school resumes. Dates and times of initial meetings will be announced several days ahead of time so students have the opportunity to attend the first meeting.

Sycamore Singing Company

Are you someone who likes to sing and dance? Do you want to try something new at SJH? Sycamore Singing Company may be for you!


Sycamore Singing Company or SSC is an extra-curricular show choir here at the junior high. Auditions are coming up soon!


In order to audition, you MUST attend the Audition Clinic on Monday, September 20 from 3:15 - 5:00 PM. The clinic will be held in the Junior High Choir Room. If you are unable to attend the clinic, please email Mr. Callahan ASAP for more information.


All of the audition materials will be found on the Sycamore Singing Company Blackboard page. Students can access it starting on Monday, September 20 by searching for “Callahan” in the Blackboard search bar. Sycamore Singing Company will be displayed as one of the classes.

Calling all BOYS!


  • The Sycamore Junior High Boy Choir will hold open membership rehearsals Thursday, Sept. 16 and Thursday, Sept. 23rd for the 2021-2022 school year. After September 23rd, membership for the year will be closed.


  • All rehearsals begin PROMPTLY at 7:15 a.m. and end at 7:50 a.m. The group meets in Room 105 at the JH.


  • Boys attending Boy Choir are to be dropped off at DOOR #2 (This is a change!!) This entrance is on the front part of the building by the Science wing. Boys should come directly to the choir room and not to their lockers or other parts of the building.


  • Information regarding Boy Choir attire, concert season, member database etc. will be distributed after membership is established.


  • DONUTS are the unofficial mascot for our group!


If you like to perform, if you like to sing, if you like to be a part of something that is a “winning team” think about joining us on Thursday September 16 and/or 23 at 7:15 a.m. in Room 105. Any SJH young man is eligible to join – no audition necessary! Gentlemen must come to one of these open membership rehearsals to solidify membership in the group.

The Sycamore Community School District is currently looking for registered nurses who would like to be employed as substitute nurses. Applicants must have current nursing experience, preferably with children, special needs, diabetes and an active nursing license.

ORDER YOUR SYCAMORE JUNIOR HIGH CLASS TEE SHIRT:


Please click on THIS LINK to order your tee shirt. The tee shirt for the Class of 2027 (7th graders) will be GREEN and the tee shirt for the Class of 2026 (8th graders) will be GOLD.


Orders may be placed up until September 12. On September 13th, the window will officially close and the tee shirts will be printed. The students will be able to pick up their tee shirts AT LUNCH in the end of September once they are printed. You may also select to have your shirt(s) shipped to your home. The PTOs of Sycamore Community Schools are hosting a forum for candidates for the Board of Education on Wednesday, September 29 at 7pm at Maple Dale Elementary School. We want your input on the questions to ask the candidates. Please share your questions here. There will be a limited number of tickets available to attend in person. JUNIOR HIGH AMBASSADORS - We are in the process bringing more of the Ambassador program from other Sycamore Schools to the Junior High. Ambassadors work with all families new to the Junior High and especially families from diverse backgrounds and cultures or who speak English as a second language. In addition to programs that might be started this year, the team will be working toward hosting our first Cultural Heritage Night in the winter of 2023.
