Volunteering in our School
Update for 2013-2014 school year
Dear community partner,
As we near the end of the 2012-2013 school year, we wish to inform our families of changes to our school volunteer policies and procedures. Methacton’s school volunteers are a critical and valued part of our home school community – many of the programs, activities, and special events that take place in our schools are totally dependent upon the support of our parent and community volunteers.
Many of these changes are in line with our school safety and emergency preparedness initiatives. While this will lengthen the amount of time it takes to become an approved Methacton volunteer, we know that our families support initiatives that are designed to keep your students safe while in our care. These changes, as outlined by Board Policy 916 (revised February, 2013), are:
- All volunteers will need clearances to volunteer in any capacity including but not limited to: lunch room, holiday parties, homeroom helpers, and field trip chaperones.
- The process to obtain clearances, obtain a TB test and become Board approved may take up to three months. Therefore, please begin the process as soon as possible to be ready for September!
An updated Volunteer Manual designed to help ensure that your volunteer experience at Methacton School District is a good one has been prepared. It contains information about district procedures and policies that affect you in your volunteer role, as well as tips and ideas that might make your experience more valuable. This volunteer manual can be found online at www.methacton.org/volunteer.
Whether or not you have decided which program or event that you will volunteer for, the ideal time to complete the volunteer registration process is now! Visit www.methacton.org/volunteer to complete the online registration form and begin the process of obtaining the necessary paperwork today. Please feel free to call 610-489-5000 ext. 15034 or e-mail me at jmarzewski@methacton.org with any questions.
Thank you for your support!
