Outdoor Recess in Winter

- Children will go outside for recess as long as the temperature and wind chill are above 15 degrees.
- From the School Handbook: "Recess will be held outdoors whenever possible. Precipitation, sunshine, cloud cover, wind chill, temperature, etc. are all considered when a decision is made for indoor recess. In general, recess will be held indoors when it is raining or the temperature/wind chill falls below 15 degrees Fahrenheit.

Attendance News - Is Your Student Not at School?
Is your student home sick? At an doctor's appointment? Coming in to school late? Out of town? Please call the office at 317-915-4270 before 10:00am to let us know.
- If you know before 8:00am that your student will be out, you can leave a message. Please give your name, your child's name, teacher's name, and a specific reason for the absence (fever? vomiting? flu or strep? traveling?).
- If you email your student's teacher, please be aware that not all teachers can check email frequently or forward messages to the office (you can also CC your email to Alison Jones, Attendance Secretary, at azjones@hse.k12.in.us).
- If we don't hear from you about your student's absence before 10:00am, we will be calling to check on your child's welfare. We need to hear from every student not in class every day.
Focus on Car Riders -> Safe Drop Off and Pick Up
- Your student must stay with you in your car until teachers come out to welcome them.
- Please stay in your car during pick-up or drop-off.
- Please adjust car seats so students can get out of the car on the curb.
- Please remain in line. Do not go around other cars. Only turn around in the circle, no U-turns anywhere else.
- Please let your student out on the sidewalk in front of the main doors, not on the side by the playgrounds.
- Please walk your student in to the school and sign in in the Main Office if there are no teachers outside when you drop off your student.
These requests are made for the safety of all students, including yours!
Remember, if the car rider line isn't working for you, there's always the bus.
A Change in Transportation
- In writing to your child's teacher.
- By phone call to the front office at 317-915-4270.
Please do not rely on your student telling the teacher of a transportation change.
Please do not rely on an email to the teacher. Teachers don't always check their email in time.
All Transportation changes must be called in before 2:00pm.
Thank you!
Would you like to have lunch with your student? Here's how!
- Contact the Main Office at 317-915-4270 from 8:00-9:30am on the day you would like to come in.
- Call as early as you can. We have space for up to 4 adults per grade, per day.
- Siblings are not permitted to have lunch in the cafeteria with students.
- Take-out or fast food is not permitted. A packed lunch is fine, or you can buy an adult lunch for $3.45. Exact cash or checks are accepted (no credit cards).
- You cannot use your child's lunch account to purchase your lunch.
- You need to have a SafeVisitor background check on file. Please have the barcode ready to scan when you arrive at school.
- Arrive just a few minutes before your student's scheduled lunch time to check in at the Main Office.
- NO PHOTOGRAPHY due to FERPA policy.
- After lunch, please sign out in the Main Office. If you plan to volunteer in your child's classroom, please inform the Main Office.
SafeVisitor Badge for Volunteers
Looking up names can lead to the wrong person being signed in. The badge is required.
When you leave, please give your printed badge back to the office staff for a quick check-out. Please don't leave without checking out.
If you need your badge emailed to you or have any questions, contact Tobi Fields 317-594-4100.
