We Live the Word!

Friday, November 30, 2018

Mr. Ted Emmott has been teaching at Father John V. Doyle School since 1979, and even taught for a time in the parish Religious Education program. He is well loved by his students, their families, and his colleagues! As a third grade teacher for many years, he influenced the lives of his students not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. He is someone who many students opened up to throughout the years. More recently, spending time with students in small groups and individually as a resource teacher allowed students to further place their trust in him.

Everyone who came through Mr. Emmott's third grade will remember practicing their multiplication tables! He also made sure students were very familiar with our Rhode Island history, and always enjoyed a trip to the State House for the end of year class trip. The entire student body - current and alum! - will remember Mr. Emmott leading us in song at our liturgies, and the Singing Saints choir will certainly miss his accompaniment on the keyboard.

Mr. Emmott will be retiring at the end of December and will be greatly missed by the entire Father John V. Doyle School community. We have been blessed to have had him here as a teacher and friend for so many years! Please keep Mr. Emmott in your prayers as he enjoys this new phase of his life!

The Mission of Father John V. Doyle School is to provide students with a solid, well-rounded education based on Roman Catholic Tradition.

A Message from Nurse Patti...

Now that the cooler weather is with us, please be sure to send your children in with appropriate outerwear. Some students just wear their sweatshirt or fleece pullover to school in the morning since they hop in and out of a warm car, but they leave it on all day. When it's time to go outside, they do not have a coat! It really is important to send them with coats, hats and mittens for the cold weather. Also boots in the snow! The children love to go outside for recess and they need the break and fresh air! Please dress them appropriately for the weather so they do not have to be kept inside while their friends are playing outside. Please know that I am aware of the battle of coats, as I have had many myself as a mom! Thank you for your attention to this matter and please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or concerns.

Drop off Reminder...

Drop off spaces in front of the gym are for quick morning "drop-offs" only! If you choose to walk your child into the school, please park in a parking space in the lot. Also please share this with anyone else who may be dropping off students, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, neighbors! Thank you!

PTO wants your input! Please complete the PTO survey!

The FJVD PTO team is working on ways to improve activities for our students and to continue to enhance our school community. As a parent, you play an important role in our children's school experience and we are asking for your opinions!

Please take a moment to complete the survey below about FJVD for our PTO. By submitting your survey NO LATER THAN FRIDAY DECEMBER 7, your child (children) will be able to wear the shoes or sneakers of their choice for a whole week (date is to be determined and sneakers must be worn on gym days). For PreK classes, your child will be able to pick from the Treasure Chest. If any class gets 100% participation on the survey, that class will earn an extra recess!
