Carbohydrates
Rohan M., Theophilus C., Aidan R.
Monomer
Monosaccharides- Single simple sugars Ex.(glucose, fructose, and galactose)
Polymer
Starch, Glycogen, Cellulose, and Chitin
Functional Groups
Hydroxyls are the only functional groups.
Common functions
The primary function for carbohydrates is for short-term energy storage, such as sugar.
The secondary function is for intermediate term energy storage such as starch and glycogen. Others are used as structural components in cells like cellulose which are found in the cell wall of plants.
How does its structure allow for it's function?
The structure of a carbohydrate helps it bond easily with other carbohydrates. This also helps them to crteate rigid functions like cell walls.
