Second Grade SUPER News

Mrs. Morris & Mrs. Pippen

Highlights from Second Grade

Beginning Tuesday, September 8th, we will have a new specials schedule:

Monday - P.E. and Music from 12:45 - 1:35

Tuesday - P.E. and Music from 12:45 - 1:35

Wednesday - P.E. and Music from 12:45 - 1:35

Thursday - Art from 8:25 - 9:15

Friday - Library book checkout and Music from 12:55 - 1:35

Library books should be returned by the following Friday. However, if students have finished reading them and have taken an AR quiz on both books, they can go to the library and get two new books any day. Beginning second quarter, we will not have a regular check out time. Students can get new books as needed.

Mr. Scaletta has asked us to remind parents of the procedure for car rider dismissal. Students will be walked to the first three cars in line. For safety, students should not walk between cars to get to a parent's parked car.

Check the Friday folder for a letter that will grant you access to the Superkids Parent Portal. By accessing the portal you will be able to see what your child is learning in second grade as well as activities your child can do at home. Please send the form back as soon as possible so you can have access. We will let you know when your access is available.

Also in the Friday folder is a District newsletter about our first type of writing, Narrative. It provides an overview of the goals for this unit, along with a writing checklist that students and teacher will use to assess writing. A second grade writing sample is also included.

Looking ahead to next week...

Literacy - Superkids will focus on homonyms, the 'wh' and 'th' spelling patterns, types of sentences, and contractions. Don't forget to look for next week's spelling list in this week's Friday folder. Due to our new Standards based report card, weekly spelling grades cannot be posted in Skyward. Look each week in your child's Friday folder for the graded test. As we mentioned on Curriculum Night, we will put an average score on the report card in the Comments section of Writing.

Math - We will continue with the Measurement and Data unit using rulers, yard sticks, meter sticks, and tape measures. We will be using standard and metric measurements.

Writing - We will capture story ideas and begin to stretch out small moments.

Have a SUPER holiday weekend!
