Middle School Matters - Beveridge Parent Engagement Sessions Coming Up
Dear Beveridge Middle Families,
Recently, your family received a message from Omaha Public Schools Chief Academic Officer Susan Christopherson. If you missed that email, we’ve posted it here.
Omaha Public Schools and Beveridge Middle are always learning and growing, just like the students we serve. Through our Strategic Plan of Action, Omaha Public Schools invested in early literacy across elementary schools and expanded access to high-quality options in high school. Reflecting on a student’s middle school experience is our next step to improve.
We invite you to attend one of the Beveridge Middle family engagement meetings, where we will discuss our school’s strengths, our vision for an ideal middle school student experience and how we can get there, together.
Our family engagement meetings will be held on the following dates:
Option 1:
Wednesday, April 12th
Time: 5:15 - 6:15 PM
Location: Beveridge Cafeteria
Option 2:
Thursday, April 13th
Time: 5:15-6:15 PM
Location: Beveridge Cafeteria
Your input is an important part of the work to come. Thank you for your support.
Family Media Agreement
This last week we held a parent night with the SmartGen Society to provide important information on Social Media use and how to keep your children safe in the age of Social Media. Part of their recommendation was for families to create a Family Media Agreement with each of your children. Please click on the link below for the Family Media Agreement from Common Sense Media.
One of the best and most important approaches to take in handling media use among children is for families to sit down together and create a family media agreement. The virtue of this approach is that it enlists all stakeholders in a conversation and empowers and invites kids and parents to think about what they do with media, when they are on media, how they engage with media and how often they use media at home. And, perhaps most importantly, the conversation creates space for dialogue about family values around media.
The Family Media Agreement from Common Sense Media can help start the conversation with your children about being safe.

Omaha Public Schools Inclement Weather Procedures
Weather Procedures
On a Remote Learning Day, students will use their district iPad to work with teachers and classmates online. Elementary students will be in session from 9 – 11 a.m. Middle and high school students will be in session from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Students should bring their iPad home each day and make sure it is charged.
Whenever possible, our district will announce changes to a daily routine the night before. However, we know weather conditions and other emergencies can develop rapidly and a decision the morning of a school day may be necessary. When that happens, we will communicate as early as possible in the morning.
We will follow our communication routines. If weather, power outages or other circumstances force a change to our normal day, we will communicate directly with all staff and families. That communication will be through email, text message and phone call. Families should ensure their contact information is current in Infinite Campus. We will also share the information on our website and through local media.

Accessing Parent Portal
The Parent Portal is a service offered to parents and guardians for accessing student records including attendance, grades and missing assignments. The service allows parents and guardians to access information about ALL of their students through one convenient website.
This is a great way for you to see what assignments your students have turned in and what assignments they haven't turned in yet. You will also be able to see the specific grade your student earned for the assignment once the teacher has entered the grade for it. Please click on the attachment below for directions on accessing the Parent Portal. If you need any support with this, please contact our front office staff at 531-299-2280.
Parent/Visitor Check In Process
Safety and security are top priorities at Beveridge. We aim to ensure that all our students and staff are safe at all times. Therefore, the following practices are in place for student sign out and visitors on campus. Individuals entering the building must follow this process to help ensure the safety of all.
When checking your student out of school early, please call the school ahead of time and request the student be in the security office for sign out at the time you need. This will avoid having you wait longer than necessary to pick up your student. If you are picking up your student during lunch, please know additional time is needed to locate your student and to assist them with getting back to their locker and classroom to pick up any belongings they may need to take home with them. Calling ahead will support us with this prior to you arriving. Please plan ahead and add some extra time for checking your student out of school.
- All parents and visitors will need to provide ID.
- Parents and visitors picking up a student from school will wait in the security office. Your student will be brought to you.
- Parents and visitors, if you are picking up an ill student, your student will remain in the Nurse's Office until you arrive. Once you arrive, the student will be escorted to the security office for check out.
- Parents and visitors wanting to meet with staff with a scheduled meeting will be escorted from the security office to the location of your meeting.
- Parents and visitors wanting to meet with staff without a scheduled meeting may be asked to schedule a meeting at another time. Staff may not be available when you arrive, and a meeting will need to be scheduled. You may be asked to leave the school until your scheduled meeting time.
Our security measures are in place to increase safety at Beveridge. Please know that all of us at Beveridge take the safety of all students, all visitors, and all staff members very seriously. We appreciate your support as we ensure all visitors follow the procedures for student sign out and visitors on campus.
