We have more exciting academic news to share from the weekend.
Our students excelled at elementary and middle school math competitions on Saturday. We also just received some fantastic foreign language news for both Turkish and Spanish classes which we will share soon.
The pace never stops at FSA. This Thursday we have a Global Awareness Assembly ( 4th grade and up) followed by a DI Bingo Fundraiser for Destination Imagination which you are invited to join us for. Next weeks activities include two hands on events Makers Faire, and STEAM day.
Everyone needs some social time so we also have relaxing picnics and fun days planned for our students to round off our inaugural year on our Fanfare Way campus.
Elementary Math Olympiad Team was the ROCK STAR at the Perennial Math Tournament!
Three teams of Elementary Math Olympiad students attended The Perennial Math Competition at the University of West Georgia on Saturday April 23rd, part of 360 teams from 30 schools across the Southeast.

4th and 5th Grade at Stone Mt.
The fourth and fifth grade classes had fun traveling back in time to the Colonial Era during our field trip this week! The students visited Stone Mountain's colonial exhibits, where they learned all about local history.
Students visited several colonial-era buildings and heard a presentation at each station. Students learned about Georgia's state history, about what animals were farmed here and how they were used, how to turn cotton or wool into thread/yarn and then blankets and clothing, and what tools were used in a Colonial kitchen. The students also learned all about trade routes, exploration, and which crops are native to the Americas and other continents.
Finally, students visited the gift shop and enjoyed lunch outside in a lovely wooded pavilion. After lunch, they ran and played, enjoying the sunshine before heading back to school.
Thank you so much to all of our wonderful parent chaperones for your help with the trip; as always, it was lovely to have you!
8th Grade at Six Flags
We celebrated Earth Day on April 21st!
Celebrating Earth Day, FSA-Style! BIG CANYON
On Thursday, April 21, we had a wonderful team of environmental educators visit our school with their Big Canyon Balloon, a 15' tall model of a canyon made from sedimentary rock. All students listened and interacted with a presentation about fun science facts. They discussed different aspects of weathering, including: constructive vs. destructive forces, potential vs. kinetic energy, rocks vs. minerals, and fossils.
Students listened to a fun, educational, and interactive presentation about sedimentary rock, how it is formed, and how it erodes. Groups of students were given vocabulary words to listen for, and they created a word wall from cards with the terms printed on them. Some of the students pretended to be a river, while others were "sediment" demonstrating deposition. Later, students learned an "erosion dance," which you can see a clip of on our school Facebook page! Then, the students went into a tunnel under the canyon to learn all about fossils. Finally, students acted out the creation of an island, with some students acting as water and grabbing grains of sand (other students), then pulling and depositing them in the ocean.
The students had a wonderful time celebrating Earth Day with the Big Canyon Balloon!

April Fitness Challenge
At FSA, we are implementing physical fitness in a new way. As a personal trainer, I want the students to enjoy fitness throughout their lives without being afraid of having to run or do push ups as a punishment. The amount of support from the faculty with our fitness challenges is very rewarding. The students are enjoying doing push ups in all grades by pushing themselves to beat their own personal record. Fitness is all about you versus you.
April Challenge- squats has already begun!
Good Luck and Stay Fit!
FSA Health Policy Reminder
It seems that cold and flu season is upon us and in full swing. We would like to remind you of our school policy regarding communicable illnesses and give you some helpful tips for staying healthy. We are beginning to see a lot of students at the front office with communicable illnesses and many of them mention that they were sick before leaving home, but their parents encouraged them to come to school. Please let me remind you that control measures and periods of exclusion are very important at a time like this in order to keep down the spread of these illnesses.
If we all follow these guidelines and simple steps, it will help to combat the spread of illness throughout our school and in your homes.
School guidelines regarding communicable illness:
1. The student should remain at home until being symptom free for 24 hours. This means that your child may not return to school until 24 hours from their last vomiting or diarrhea episode.
2. If the student experiences a fever during an illness, they should be “fever free” for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school.
3. If the diagnosis is strep throat, the student should remain at home for 24 hours after starting the first dose of antibiotic treatment.
4. During any communicable illness, the student should be symptom free and fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. If your child has the flu, they should provide a doctor's note stating they can return to school.
IMPORTANT DISMISSAL PROCEDURES ANNOUNCEMENT
For the safety of our students:
School dismissal policy is that at 3:30 pm and 4:20 pm students are dismissed by carpool at the upper circle. Unless there is a family emergency, please do not expect to get your student from the front desk. If there is a family emergency please call the Administration Team, Principal Sener, or Assistant Principals Turan and Campbell, who will authorize pick up of your child during our no pick up times.
Any students waiting in the lobby without a parent will be sent up to Study Hall between 3:30 pm and 4:20 pm to be supervised, and from 4:40 pm -6 pm to After Care.
School closes at 6 pm, any students remaining will be under the care of staff waiting to go home.
If a parent is coaching a club or at a parent conference siblings or carpooling students need to be in Study Hall or After Care (no fee incurred).
If one student is in a club, or private music lesson, any additional siblings will be expected to follow the rule above (fee will apply after 4:40).
Academic Team members need to be picked up at 5:30 pm (unless otherwise directed by teachers). If not picked up they will be sent to After Care and the fee applied.
Pre-k and Kindergarten students (and any siblings or carpooling students) will continue to dismiss from the end of the elementary hallway.
Teachers ‘children need to use Study Hall or After Care unless directly supervised by their parent.
No student should ever be in an area of our school without adult supervision, cafeteria, stage, gym etc
Please respect our teachers and parent coach’s personal time as they work outside regular school hours with your students by picking up promptly.
This is our school policy and it will be adhered to.

Uniform and locker Reminder
A reminder that all non-uniform jackets need to be taken off and left in lockers or cubbies after arriving at school. Jackets should be worn for outside recess, but must be returned to lockers or cubbies after that. Wearing a non-uniform jacket during class is a violation of the dress code, which results in conduct points.
All students 4th through 8th grade have been issued a locker lock for their locker. This locker lock is to be used to prevent anyone from tampering with student belongings. If you have lost your locker lock, see Mrs. Campbell for a replacement. A replacement lock will cost $20.
