Carl T. Renton Junior High

Spring Newsletter

Tom Thelen, author of VICTIMPROOF, is one of America’s top anti-bullying speakers. Tom joined Renton students on March 17th. He has spoken at over 500 schools, colleges, and youth organizations teaching students how to break free from the victim mindset and how to stand up to bullying. Tom has been featured on FOX, PBS, CBS, The National Honor Society, and The National Association of Student Councils.

As an anti-bullying speaker, Tom gives students practical strategies to “be the change” on their campus. His message takes them on a journey through his own life story including an intervention program he experienced as a teen and how he learned to make positive life choices. Tom is a gifted motivator who relates to teens with stories that touch the heart and make them laugh.

As a part of our presentation we also purchased access to Tom's website Victimproof. On the website there are webcasts and videos that teach the curriculum. You can also download a copy of the book. To log in the username is renton, and the password is victimproof. Our hope is students and parents take advantage of this wonderful resource.

A word from Mrs. Bressler

These are my fabulous students. For months they have worked and been open to new ideas. They have grown leaps and bounds as musicians. Over the past two weeks they put their hearts into performances at the MSVMA Choral Festival and MSBOA Band Festivals. Both groups received top honors in sight reading, which is considered by many the most difficult part of the competitions.

I must say I have never been more proud of my students as we exited the stage. They put their heart and soul into their performances and, using some of their vocabulary, "nailed it". I couldn't have asked them for anything more. In my book, these were superior performances and they made me so proud.

Thank you Choir and Band for representing Renton Junior well. You are indeed the BEST!
