What are we learning about this week?
Reading: This week we are going to discuss summarizing while we read. We will practice writing down the BME(beginning, middle, end) of the story and practice how to pull out the important information for each part.
Below are some questions you can ask to help practice this skill this week:
What happened when ___?
What happened after ___?
What can you infer about the conflict in the story?
What can you infer about the resolution in the story?
What can you infer about the ending or the outcome of the story?
Reading tips from Mrs. Mestemaker: Second and Third Grades
We will also be using the PRESS reading strategy that will give each student a tool to use to aide in comprehension.
Math: Unit 3 reviews place value, multi-digit addition/subtractions, and problem solving. Students will be to the idea of rounding 2-and 3- digit numbers to the nearest ten and the nearest hundred.
Science: Stayin' Alive - In the second science unit we are going to dive right into different habitats and the animals that live in them. We start the unit by assessing what we already know about this topic, and then learn about a species in our neck of the woods. This particular species is called the Barton Springs Salamander. Please take a look below to learn more about this critter. We will start and end the unit with this little guy.
