Why the new standards (Next Generation Science Standards- NGSS)?

Grounded in the most current research on science learning. Developed by the NRC- National Academies of Sciences, NSTA- National Science Teaching Association, AAAS-American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Achieve-nonprofit education organization leading the effort to help states make college and career readiness a priority for all students.
Why NGSS?

How does the adoption of the new standards change the way science looks in my child's classroom?

How can I get involved?

There will be a Science Instructional Materials Parent Night on 11/13/2019 from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. at the district office.

Ask your child about what they are experiencing in their science classes. We hope to hear they are doing science (conducting investigations, designing solutions, discussing open-ended questions, etc.) rather than learning scientific facts (vocabulary, lecture, worksheets, step by step labs).

Fill out parent survey (look for an email that will be coming from your child's school near the end of each phase if your child is in a class that is piloting materials)
