Message From the Principal - Moving Forward

Dear Falcon Families,

We are officially at a crossroad. In the past week, Pinewood School has reached out to families to offer the opportunity to come back to school in a hybrid model. I am elated that many of you are entrusting us to have your children back in the classrooms. Please know that we are taking every opportunity to make this a safe transition for us all.

At the same time, I want to appreciate the families who have chosen to remain on the distance learning path with your child. This is a difficult decision that involves a strong commitment from our home partnership. Please know that even though you will not be on campus, you remain a big part of our school community. I am grateful that you will stay connected via your amazing teachers.

This week we have had many inquires about what our hybrid schedule looks like. To summarize, the Pollock Pines Elementary School District has established a weekly schedule wherein students will work from home on Mondays to complete work assigned by their classroom teacher. This day of of the week will be very similar to what our Wednesdays look like right now. For the remainder of the school week, Tuesday through Friday, students will come for in person instruction during either a morning session (Cohort A) or an afternoon session (Cohort B).

I have also been asked how we created these groups. In building the cohorts, the district placed a high priority in keeping siblings at both schools in the same group. Furthermore, I connected with each of our classroom teachers to get their advice on how to split the classes. From these conversations, I realized in just a few short weeks your teachers have really gotten to know you. They shared with me dynamics such as parent work schedules, child care needs, student sleep schedules, extra curricular activities and learning styles. I also reached out to several families personally. In all, much thought was placed into this scheduling.

This evening you will receive an email with a great deal of information about our upcoming transition. Specifically, this message will include your student's cohort assignment and procedural changes that will be in place at Pinewood as we welcome students back on campus.

Please know your child's health and wellness are paramount as we continue to work with you to educate our Pinewood Falcons. I encourage you to give us your feedback of how things are going and appreciate your suggestions as well.

Looking Forward,

Kim Little

One-on-One Meetings Cancelled Next Week (9/28 -10/2)

In order to give teachers time to prepare for our students return, there will be no one-on-one meetings with your child's teacher next week. We will continue our live Zoom/Google meetings. If you have any questions, please reach out to your teacher via Classtag or contact the school office. Students that are returning to campus on October 6th need to being all completed work to turn in to their teacher. Students on the distant learning path will turn in all completed work as scheduled by your teacher.

Note that our current Special Education and Title 1 Support classes will continue as scheduled next week.

Hybrid Schedule Bus Transportation

In order to provide bus transportation to both the morning and afternoon cohorts, we consolidated bus runs. Our busses will run Tuesday through Friday. During the hybrid schedule, one bus will cover the northern end of our district. This route will combine several of the stops on the current red and green route. The other bus will run the southern end of our district. This new route will be a modification of the blue and orange routes.

It is important to note that you must have a current bus application on file for students to ride the bus. These bus routes are now posted on the district website.

As an added safety measure, please note that all riders must wear face coverings. Drivers will be seating students systematically and will be having members of the same family sit together.

Garden Under Construction!

Recently Pinewood School was awarded a generous grant from the El Dorado Women's Fund to renovate our school garden. In the coming weeks you will see work being done to rebuild many of the current planter boxes. You will also notice new seating installed in this area for an outdoor learning space. By spring we are hoping to reopen this updated garden to our students. As we work on this project, we welcome volunteers to help get this work done. Please contact the school office if you are interested in helping us reinvigorate this space. Today we share our before photo and we look forward to posting images of our progress in future newsletters.
