Message From the Principal - Moving Forward
Dear Falcon Families,
We are officially at a crossroad. In the past week, Pinewood School has reached out to families to offer the opportunity to come back to school in a hybrid model. I am elated that many of you are entrusting us to have your children back in the classrooms. Please know that we are taking every opportunity to make this a safe transition for us all.
At the same time, I want to appreciate the families who have chosen to remain on the distance learning path with your child. This is a difficult decision that involves a strong commitment from our home partnership. Please know that even though you will not be on campus, you remain a big part of our school community. I am grateful that you will stay connected via your amazing teachers.
This week we have had many inquires about what our hybrid schedule looks like. To summarize, the Pollock Pines Elementary School District has established a weekly schedule wherein students will work from home on Mondays to complete work assigned by their classroom teacher. This day of of the week will be very similar to what our Wednesdays look like right now. For the remainder of the school week, Tuesday through Friday, students will come for in person instruction during either a morning session (Cohort A) or an afternoon session (Cohort B).
I have also been asked how we created these groups. In building the cohorts, the district placed a high priority in keeping siblings at both schools in the same group. Furthermore, I connected with each of our classroom teachers to get their advice on how to split the classes. From these conversations, I realized in just a few short weeks your teachers have really gotten to know you. They shared with me dynamics such as parent work schedules, child care needs, student sleep schedules, extra curricular activities and learning styles. I also reached out to several families personally. In all, much thought was placed into this scheduling.
This evening you will receive an email with a great deal of information about our upcoming transition. Specifically, this message will include your student's cohort assignment and procedural changes that will be in place at Pinewood as we welcome students back on campus.
Please know your child's health and wellness are paramount as we continue to work with you to educate our Pinewood Falcons. I encourage you to give us your feedback of how things are going and appreciate your suggestions as well.
One-on-One Meetings Cancelled Next Week (9/28 -10/2)
Note that our current Special Education and Title 1 Support classes will continue as scheduled next week.
We have space available in our TK class! If you have a child that turns five between September 1st and December 2nd, they are eligible for this class. TK is great opportunity to establish readiness for the Kindergarten classroom and increase social and emotional development. Plus we think our TK teacher, Mrs. Cook, is simply the best!
Bring a Water Bottle
As students return to campus, we encourage them to bring their own water bottle. labels with their name With more people on campus, we will be closing down the drinking fountains. Students will be able to fill their bottles in the classroom sinks or the refill stations.
In order to have enough devices on campus for our 2nd through 4th grade students, we are asking that the Kindergarten and First grade families who are not enrolled in distance learning return any device and charger they checked out . Likewise families with multiple devices will be asked to turn in all but one of their Chromebooks. Ideally, we would like these returned on October 2nd or October 5th.

Hybrid Schedule Bus Transportation
It is important to note that you must have a current bus application on file for students to ride the bus. These bus routes are now posted on the district website.
As an added safety measure, please note that all riders must wear face coverings. Drivers will be seating students systematically and will be having members of the same family sit together.
