Crozet School Counseling
Week of September 9, 2013
Kindergarten and First Grade
This week we started learning about the 6 pillars of character that we celebrate at Crozet Elementary. Students were introduced to the pillars with a video that includes some of their favorite characters! This week we watched stories about Trustworthiness, Respect, and Responsibility. We will learn more about each of these pillars over the next few weeks before we move on to the the second half of the movie. Be sure to ask your student what they remember about the pillars we reviewed!
This was our first week in second grade and our friends were introduced to Kelso the Frog! Kelso is here to help us learn ways to handle our small problems as responsible second graders. We first reviewed the difference between small problems and BIG problems. BIG problems are when someone is in danger and it is important to tell a trusted adult. BIG problems are dangerous and can cause someone harm and when we talk to an adult about a BIG problem that is called reporting. Small problems are things that do not cause danger or harm. When we tell an adult about small problems we call that tattling. Over the next seven weeks Kelso will be sharing nine strategies he knows that will help students solve their small problems!
School Counseling Intern
This year I am excited to share that I have a counseling intern from the University of Virginia. Claire Nawojchik is a second year Master's student studying to become a school counselor. She will be here all year on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays!
