CCE PrincipalSPELLING BEE ~ CALLING ALL 4TH, 5TH & 6TH GRADERS
Attention all 4th, 5th, and 6th grade families! Have you heard the buzz? It’s time for the 2021 Coyote Creek Spelling Bee. If your child is interested in participating in the CCE Bee this year, the qualifying written test will be held on Thursday, November 19th before school at 8:00 AM sharp. Please arrive early in your grade level pod to ensure that you are at a desk and ready to begin the test on time. 4th graders will meet in Mrs, Morphey’s room, 5th graders will meet in Mrs. Ven’s room, and 6th graders will meet Mrs. Detton’s room. Attendance is mandatory. No make-up test can be given. The fifteen students who score the highest on the written portion will qualify to be in the Coyote Creek Spelling Bee.
Due to COVID-19, practices will not be held. Instead emails will be provided to parents with suggested activities to do at home to prepare for the Bee.
This is an exciting opportunity for all of those great spellers out there, so we hope to see many smiling faces at the tryouts on Thursday, November 19th.
If you have any questions, please email Nicole Lawrence
(nllawrence@dcsdk12.org) Can’t wait to see you there!

COUNSELING CORNER
Here are some of the topics your children are learning about during classroom counselor lessons so far this year. We have covered the Zones of Regulation and problem solving with the younger students. And in the upper grades we are talking about growth mindset including goal setting and resilience. Click the links here to read more here about these topics and ways that you can help your child continue to cultivate these important life-skills.
Each week, look for a featured Social Emotional Learning (SEL) article in this newsletter and on my website. My hope is to give you extra tools to help support this aspect of your child's learning. Click to learn more about SEL.

MAD SCIENCE ~ VIRTUAL COURSE THANKSGIVING BREAK
Dressing for the Weather
As the weather begins to get colder, we'd like to remind families to send your child with weather appropriate outdoor attire. Students will continue going outside for recess as long as the temperature and windchill are above 22 degrees. Please make sure they come dressed with a warm coat and additional appropriate attire when needed: hats, scarves, gloves, and snow boots -- so they can enjoy outside recess. Thank you!

Box Tops
The Box Tops for Education program is changing the way we can earn cash for our school by going digital! CCE earned $600 last year by collecting Box Tops and has brought in over $21,000 in lifetime earnings. Going forward, Box Tops will be earned digitally by scanning your receipt.
Steps:
- Go to the app store on your mobile device and download the new app.
- Create a sign-in and link it to COYOTE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
- Scan the receipt using the app within 14 days of purchase and the funds are automatically added to our school account.
Please continue to clip traditional Box Tops at home and send them to school. We will still earn cash for all clipped Box Tops until they expire. Better yet, we can "double dip" during the transition by clipping traditional Box Tops AND scanning your store receipt containing participating products.
Thanks for helping our school! Questions? Please contact CCE parent and Box Top Chairperson Amy Haines. Thanks!
