District to Host Community Budget Information Session on April 12
The WLWV Budget Committee will hold a public information session on Thursday, April 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the West Linn-Wilsonville School District Board Room. District staff and Budget Committee members will share information about the budget process and also solicit feedback from local residents regarding the District’s budget priorities and State budget process during this meeting.
At that meeting district staff will answer questions and address concerns related to the development of priorities for the new 2018-2019 budget. Question and comment cards will be collected and addressed at the meeting, and results will be posted to the district website.
Parents, Community Invited to Third Health and Wellness Curriculum Renewal Community Meeting
The District invites parents from all schools to join the third community meeting to learn about our progress so far and contribute to our thinking and planning. Parents are invited to join us at the West Linn-Wilsonville District Office on Monday, May 14. During that meeting the District and Parent Focus Group will review materials, complete curriculum outlines, and plan for a larger Community Communication Session on Wednesday, May 30. Feedback from the Community Communication Session will then be considered before WLWV staff presents a Comprehensive Sexuality Education Plan to the School Board for approval in June.
Interested community members can read more about the current health and wellness program renewal progress on the District Website. To learn more about current health and wellness curriculum in the District, visit the Wellness webpage on the District Website.
This Week's Nutrition Edition Highlights Fresh Produce in WLWV Cafeterias thanks to Farm-to-School Grant
Do you want to learn more about the District's Nutrition Services Department, and the food that we're serving in our school cafeterias? The Nutrition Edition will now provide regular updates and highlights regarding the Nutrition Services Department, including interesting facts about the food served in WLWV schools.
For example, did you know that West Linn-Wilsonville Nutrition Services was awarded a Farm-to-School Grant for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 school years?
The Oregon Farm to School and School Garden Grant (made possible from Oregon House Bill 2038) enables all Oregon school districts to be reimbursed for purchasing Oregon grown or Oregon processed food items. This means more food that the CREST Farm can grow and deliver to our own school cafeterias.
A few highlighted items WLWV schools used the grant for this year include kiwi berries, Granola, grapes, watermelon, cucumbers, mushrooms and fresh scratch starters to flavor food. Not to mention that the list doesn't include local companies we already use for dairy, bread and pizza.
Keep your eyes open as we spotlight more delicious food items next year!

SafeOregon TipLine Provides Anonymous Reporting Resource for Students
In an effort to improve student safety across all West Linn-Wilsonville schools, the District continues its partnership with SafeOregon and the SafeOregon TipLine. Many students already report issues of safety concerns, bullying, harassment, or possible suicidal thoughts to trusted adults around them, and the District will continue to foster an environment where children feel comfortable to confide in parents, teachers, school counselors, or building administrators. But in an effort to provide even more resources for students, the State of Oregon has developed an additional channel and method for obtaining help called the SafeOregon Tip Line.
The goal of the SafeOregon tip line is to prevent threats to school safety by providing schools and communities with a relevant reporting tool. Tips can be submitted by students through email, phone, text messages, the Safe Oregon mobile app or web portal. Tips are quickly reviewed by SafeOregon technicians, and are then passed to school administrators and local law enforcement agencies. If the tip requires an urgent response, technicians from Safe Oregon will call 911 for immediate help, as well as provide information to West Linn-Wilsonville school administration or school officials.
West Linn-Wilsonville administration will respond to all tips in an appropriate and timely matter, which can include gathering more information, communicating with key stakeholders, using the District Threat Assessment System, using the District Suicide Risk Assessment process, connecting the student with additional resources, contacting law enforcement, or any other responses that are appropriate.
You can learn more about Safe Oregon at http://safeoregon.com/, or contact your child’s counselor for more information.
