Ready, Set.... Kindergarten!
Upcoming Kindergarten Events
Welcome to the Milton Public School’s Class of 2035!
Dear Parent/Guardians,
Kindergarten school assignments went out Tuesday, April 26, 2022 via email. If you have not yet received this information please reach out to Marti O’Keefe McKenna via email at mmckenna@miltonps.org. Classroom/Teacher assignments will be sent to families in late August.
We know sending your little one off to Kindergarten can be an exciting time that can also be stressful. We have planned a variety of events to help you and your child(ren) with all the emotions that come with heading off to Kindergarten, not just for the student but for the adults as well. MPS’ Ready, Set…Kindergarten! will have you and your child excited and prepared for this new chapter.
Kindergarten Screening
Our first event, Kindergarten screening of Ready, Set...Kindergarten! will take place at your child’s new school. A separate email will be sent to families with a link to schedule your child's appointment.
Screening dates are as follows:
- Collicot School - May 19 and 20, 2022
- Cunningham School - May 16 and 17, 2022
- Glover School - May 23 and 24, 2022
- Tucker School - June 2 and 3, 2022
We want to let you know what to expect during your screening visit.
The purpose of Kindergarten screening is to start to get a little information about how your child's readiness skills are beginning to develop. Your child will participate in several "Stations" with various staff. The fun activities staff will do with your child are going to help us take a look at their motor, language and readiness development. We will also ask you to complete a Developmental Questionnaire. The nurse will also be available if you have any questions about your child's health needs.
If your child has trouble completing any of the age appropriate tasks in any of the areas above, we will let you know some enrichment activities you can work on at home.
If you or your child's pediatrician have concerns that your child has any significant delays in his/her development, please make sure you let us know that in your questionnaire.
If your child has worked with Early Intervention, please let us know that as well.
The goal of this experience is to be a fun beginning to kindergarten, so we can get to know your children and be ready for their arrival in September
School based tours, meetings, gatherings
Going to a new school can be a big step for our newest MPS community members. We recognize that and want to provide incoming Kindergarteners and their families an opportunity to visit the school. Be on the lookout as your child's new principal will be sending out a welcome newsletter inviting you to join them at school based tours, meetings and gatherings. It is a great way to help with the new school jitters.
"Getting Ready For Kindergarten" Cafe
