Teacher Communication is Essential
- Facetime
- Hangout chats/videos
- Meet video conferences
- Telephone calls
- Flipgrid
- Google Classroom
There are so many ways to communicate today! I know some of you have gotten out of your comfort zones and have video taped lessons, personal messages, or even had live sessions with your students. THANK YOU!
I appreciate all of your hard work towards helping your students and our district while we embrace a new way to teach the students of Monroe County.
Tips for Staying Organized in Google Classroom
There is no one RIGHT way. Everyone has different systems. No matter which one you choose, IT IS IMPORTANT to stay ORGANIZED!!
- Ask a question in Classroom to take roll
- Use dates as topics
- Click and drag things to put in an organizational order
- Use easy to understand directions when giving assignments
- Reuse assignments
I have MANY short demonstration videos linked on Tech Tips for Teachers website. If you are new to figuring out Google Classroom you may want to view these videos.
Parents May Need Help with Google Classroom
Google Hangouts vs Google Hangouts Meet
- You can chat
- You can have a video session
Hangouts Meet:
- You can have a video session and chat at the same time
- Great to use when you are wanting to have an online teaching moment or staff meeting
- Sessions can be recorded
- Videos will generate and be saved in Google Drive
Google has made updates and are constantly working to improve their tools. I included an image of a slide I have used when holding a Meet. Feel free to copy the slide and make it your own to use during your sessions.
This is an Excellent Resource to Watch!
Want to Use Flipgrid for Communicating with Your Students?
Flipgrid can do that! You can customize your grid so that students can respond to you and no one else views their videos. This is in your topic status. Turn it on and the teacher will be able to see the videos but no one else can. (I included a screenshot below of the directions for how to do this.)
This would be awesome as a daily check-in. Students could ask questions, share their feelings, or simply just connect to their teachers. (I've included a screenshot of an example I found on Twitter.)
For information about Flipgrid, check out the resource page I have put together or go directly to the Flipgrid website.
