This is your Captain Speaking!
Hello Birdneck Family,
A group of your colleagues attended a session by Hamish Brewer on Wednesday and came back raving about his message. What he shared is totally congruent with what we want for our students and each other here at Birdneck. You all have made such a difference in the lives of our students and making sure that focus on their success is always the main thing. Hamish Brewer's theme is "Relentless". We need to be relentless in ensuring the success of our students not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.
Feeling cared for in our school helps children as well as adults to have a sense of pride within these walls. Being an advocate for each and every child and being one who lets them know they are loved keeps the main thing the main thing. Hamish said that "Our children are an opportunity, not an obligation. We don't get to pick and choose who comes through our doors. We don't get to choose who succeeds and who fails. We don't get to choose who is in the pipeline to prison. Our school is not a pipeline to prison.... We are not going to negotiate on our children, our families. We are all in. I will walk through a brick wall and back for my students and my staff. How far are you willing to go?"
I want you all to know that I too would walk through a brick wall for you and our students. We need to be all for one and one for all here at Birdneck! Please take time to watch the video below to view the powerful message Hamish Brewer shares.
Questions he has helped me to ponder are:
When you are no longer working with Birdneck students or teachers, what is the legacy you want to leave behind?
What do you want others to remember about you?
Have you told a child or colleague that you you love them or care about them recently?
We are Birdneck and we are family!
