Principal's Message
Dear Wildcats,
I hope that you have enjoyed a restful weekend. I wanted to share a few areas for which we will be working on this week.
- Common Planning using Backwards Design. Remember we are learning by doing! So, all the learning is hands on and will be directly associated with your scope and sequence. We will dive deeper on October 8th. 4th Grade- you will participate in make-up pd on Wednesday.
- Assessing our Students for the Panorama Survey. This will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday during extended planning time.
- Get Better Faster Tip: Prevent students from calling out and breaking classroom norms by having Popsicle sticks with their names or using Class Dojo to randomly call on students. This will reinforce your expectations and allow for many students to be called on through out the day. Take it a step further and use "Talk Moves" to help student discourse in the classroom. Watch this video on a student participation strategy: https://www.teachingchannel.org/video/student-participation-strategy
As a community- we have declared our goal to improve on state accountability standards by one letter grade from 70 to 80.
Looking ahead into the work we will do for this month:
- Assessing our Students for PSA 1; Rdg, Math, Sci, & Writing: PSA1 2nd-5th are scheduled for the week of October 16th-25th.
- Parent Conferences: You may start scheduling conferences with your parents the entire month of October, however you also have early dismissal on Oct. 18 and 19th for these.
Fun Activities:
- Hispanic Heritage Week: We draw our month to a close by celebrating on Oct. 8-12. October 9: Wear your favorite Latin American Sport Shirt; October 11: Wear your favorite Hispanic Heritage outfit! Prizes to be given away! (Prizes- Best Team Spirit: Breakfast Tacos for the whole team! Top 3 Best Dressed: Backpack filled with classroom school supplies.)
- Fall Carnival: Our carnival theme is Unstoppable: Sports Theme! Each team must decide on what sport team they will represent and dress accordingly throughout the day on October 19th. It is tradition! By the way we have prizes to give away for best dressed teams. The prizes will be announced on October 8th during staff development.
- Red Ribbon Week: We celebrate on 22-26th! Look at the calendars for fun daily student and staff activities.
Wildcat Love and respect,
Rachel Martinez

SSE Reading now have 12,163 minutes - A Wonderful Start!
It's time for ALL CLASSES to start to Soar with Reading! We need to encourage all students to read or read with a parent every night! Make our students accountable to read! Pizza Hut Book It contest has monthly calendars, Ms Urrutia and Ms Alvarez have a great weekly reading sheet that parents sign. Grades 3-5 have the students log their times in Reading Rewards. Let's Get Every Student Reading!! A Daily Reading habit will make them soar in life! Don't let your class get behind... let's get their reading minutes accounted for!
TOP Reading Class ....
Ms Urrutia's class 3,054 minutes
Ms Alvarez's class 2,965
Ms Mendoza's class 2,561
Ms Klauer's class 2,035
Think about... when would you like to have your students create a class book. If you have some writing assignments that are getting edited which would make a great writing piece for a book, let's plan!
Thanks again for your support!
