Basic First Aid
For Adult Victims
Check for Responsiveness
The very first step is always to check if the person is conscious. Tap them on the shoulder and ask if they are okay.
1) If they are conscious, introduce yourself, ask what happened, and offer first aid.
2) If they refuse help, call 911 and stay near them.
3) If they do not respond, assume that they need your help, and perform first aid.

Call 911
Make sure to check your location so you can describe it to the emergency center. If the victim is face-down, roll them over and put their head, neck, and back in a straight line.
Open airway and check for breathing
Tilt their head and lift their chin. Check quickly for breathing. Remember that occasional gasping is not considered breathing.
Scan for severe bleeding
After calling the emergency center, cover any serious open wound with a sterile dressing and apply direct pressure until the bleeding stops
What if they aren't breathing?
If not breathing, perform CPR by pushing hard and fast in the middle of the chest, at least 2 inches deep and at least 100 compressions per minute. Don't stop until the emergency people get there.
