WARDOG ATHLETICS

Newsletter

From MPS director of athletics Chad Davis:

Good morning and happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend....it's another busy week in the world of athletics, with all of our basketball and wrestling teams seeing action this week. As we continue to see changes and adjustments to all of our athletic schedules, I want to thank all of you for your cooperation and patience through it all. We will continue to do everything we can to keep our kids competing in their sport.

One change taking place immediately will affect our JV basketball teams. Starting tomorrow, both the JV girls and JV boys games will take place in the MAC. The JV girls game will now start at 4:30pm, followed by the JV boys game at approximately 5:15pm. This is in place for the remainder of the season. Please make these changes to your calendars.

COVID19 Event Update

Our county remained in RED for this week. A mask or face covering is mandatory for everyone in attendance at any Miami Athletics event upon entry, and in the concession or restroom areas. Our seating capacities will be kept at a maximum of 50% at all home events, and tickets will be allotted for all home events with the governor's executive order currently in affect limiting overall attendance at any indoor sporting event.

TICKET ALLOTTMENT:

Tickets will be allotted for all eligible student-athletes on the active roster for their respective sport through their head coaches. The governor's executive order limits indoor sporting event attendance to no more than 50% capacity, or to four tickets per athlete, whichever is less.

This affects the JH Basketball games that are played in the high school practice gym. Moving forward we will allot two tickets to each athlete on the roster for all events in the high school practice gym. This is the only way we ensure staying at 50% capacity in that facility. We will continue offering four tickets to each athlete on the roster for all events held in the MAC.

HS BASKETBALL
This week our basketball teams have two games scheduled. On Tuesday they will host Wagoner. The JV girls game will start at 4:30pm, and the JV boys game will follow at 5:15pm. Both JV games will be played in the MAC. The varsity girls game will start at 6:30pm, and the varsity boys game will follow at approximately 8:00pm.

Both teams will travel to Vinita on Friday. The JV girls will play at 4:30pm, JV boys will play at 5:15pm, varsity girls at 6:30pm, and varsity boys at 8:00pm. All games will be played in the James E. Sooter Activities Center (801 N. Adair Street - Vinita, OK.).

Last week, the girls went 2-1 picking up wins over Seneca and Cassville, and lost a tough overtime game vs. Claremore-Sequoyah. The boys team picked up a solid win over Seneca, and lost to Sequoyah and Cassville.

JH BASKETBALL

Our 7th & 8th grade boys and girls teams, and the 9th grade boys basketball team have one game scheduled this week at home vs. Vinita on Thursday. The 7th and 8th grade girls will play their games in the MAC, and the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade boys will play in the high school gym. The 7th grade games will start at 5:30pm, and the other games will follow.

HS WRESTLING

After being off last week, the Wardog wrestlers will be back in action this week, starting with a dual at Locust Grove tonight at 6:00pm. On Wednesday they will compete at NEO A&M College in a tournament starting at 9:00am (no fans permitted). They were originally scheduled to compete at the Catoosa Tournament this weekend, but that event has since been removed.

JH WRESTLING

The WRMS wrestlers will be in action twice this week, starting with tomorrow night when they travel to Locust Grove for duals starting at 6:00pm. They will compete in the Wagoner tournament this Friday and Saturday. 80lbs-119lbs will wrestle on Friday, 126lbs-285lbs will wrestle on Saturday. Wrestling will begin at 9am both days. Allotted tickets will be distributed through Coach Gilstrap for attendance in Wagoner. The tournament will be held inside the Wagoner High School gym (300 Bulldog Circle - Wagoner, OK.).

POWERLIFTING

We expect to receive more information this week regarding powerlifting events for this season. The current dates for the JH Regional meet at the Civic Center is Wednesday, March 3rd, and the HS Regional meet is Thursday, March 4th. Once we have confirmation from the state on the guidelines for all powerlifting meets, and the approved schedule, we will let you know.

LETTERMAN JACKET/PATCHES

For those students who ordered a letterman jacket or patches, you can pick them up at the main office at the high school this week, Tuesday-Friday during regular school hours. Reminder that your balance must be paid in full before you can pickup your jacket or patches.

Keep up with Wardog Athletics!

If you are not doing so already, I encourage you to follow Wardog Athletics on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/WardogAthletics), and on Twitter (@WardogAthletics).
