Progress Reports were handed out during advisory period on Wednesday this week. Parents can access a digital copy by logging into their ParentVUE accounts and clicking on the "Report Card" tab. If you need assistance, please call the BHS office at 541-347-4413.

November 2nd wrapped up the 1st quarter. Progress reports will be sent home the following week. Scheduled conferences will be scheduled based on the needs of our students. We encourage all families who would like to conference with their child's teacher(s) to please come by during our drop in hours which are posted below. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out by phone.

Seniors: A rep from Josten's will be on campus November 15th for cap & gown orders. See Mrs. Wright if you have any questions.

Are you interested in applying for the National Honor Society? Candidates must be 10th-12th grade, have a 3.5 or better combined GPA, and have over 15hrs of documentable volunteer/service work. See Mr. Taylor for applications.

BHS Students, Join the Interact Club! It's a club that partners with our local Rotary and works to do service in our community. Our motto is "Service above Self." Our first official meeting of this school year will be on Wednesday, November 1st and as an incentive to potential members, we will be serving PIZZA. Please sign up with Ms. Hawthorne in room #2 to let us know if you plan to attend this first informational meeting, so we know how much pizza to buy.

If you would like to purchase a yearbook for this year they are $20 until December 15th - after Winter Break the price will increase. Please see the office or Ms. Pearson for a preorder form.

Winter Athletes who plan to play basketball or participate in cheer you need to be signed up on FamilyID and have a current sports physical on file with the office before the first date of practice. Pay to play fee is due before the first competition.

Last Saturday, the boys' and girls' cross country teams both competed at state which was held at Lane Community College. The boys' placed 7th as a team. The girls' placed 5th as a team. Congratulations to all athletes and coaches, and a huge shout out to Marley Petrey for coming in 8th for the girls 3A/2A/1A race!

Last Saturday, our High School football team battled it out against Heppner. Unfortunately the Tigers came up short 28-7 ending the season. We are so proud of the hard work, time and dedication each player and coach put into this year. Good Job Tigers, on the successful year and making it to the first round of the state tournament!

Students came home with their mid semester progress report this week. If you did not receive that report, you can contact the office to get another. You can also check your ParentVue to view progress reports.

HLMS will be reintroducing sexual health into our health curriculum for 7th/8th graders this year. The focus is biological and safety-related, including lessons on changes during puberty, the male and female reproductive systems, infant and child development, and staying healthy as you age. Any family wishing to exempt their child from this piece of our classroom health instruction will be able to do so and will have access to the topics to ensure that their child is exposed to the information in a way that feels appropriate and comfortable for our families. Our curriculum is Glencoe Teen Health, published by McGraw Hill. If you are interested in previewing our curriculum prior to this course of study, we will have materials available at the front office. Our Lost and Found is full. We will be donating all items in the lost and found after 11/9. Please have your students check the lost and found, or feel free to drop by and have a look yourself.

All of our students should have signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

The students ran a great Jog a Thon this year with pledges totaling $16,265.70!!! 1,558 laps were ran in total. Great work!!

Jog a Thon money needs to be turned in by next week to count towards our incentives.

Please have your child turn their money into the office in the mornings.

Valley Flora wanted to alert you to a few new programs that we - and other NW farms - are spearheading in in order to make fresh, local produce more accessible to low income families in our community. We’re trying to get the word out as widely as possible. If you have a spot to hang a poster (attached below), or room for a mention in your next newsletter, that would be wonderful! We are happy to provide you with a color-printed poster, just let us know! Also, please feel free to forward this email to anyone in your networks who would benefit from knowing about these programs.

• Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB): a program that helps low-income Oregonians purchase more fruits and vegetables while supporting local, family farms. Folks with SNAP benefits can purchase one of our farm’s community supported agriculture (CSA) shares and DUFB will provide 1:1 matching funds (they pay half the cost of the CSA with SNAP and DUFB covers the other half). It's a win-win that strengthens our community by providing better access to fresh, healthy food while helping local farmers earn a living.
