Mariner Update Parent Edition
Volume 12 Issue 7
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians:
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to drive safely, follow all traffic rules and watch out for children and pedestrians. Safe driving around our school improves safety for all children, including yours. Please follow the school's drop off and pick up procedures. In addition, please pay attention to your surroundings and watch for children while dropping off or picking up your child. Please consider the following tips:
Please drive slowly around the school while children are present.
Drivers MUST yield to pedestrians crossing in a crosswalk.
Pedestrians must use marked crosswalks to cross the street.
Try to drop-off your child at a location where he/she does not have to cross the street.
When dropping off your child, pull to the curb safely, have your child exit carefully and depart immediately. This will allow others to safely bring their children to school.
Do not leave your car unattended.
Do not block crosswalks, driveways, red zones, or fire hydrants.
Be courteous to your fellow parents and residents.
Remain alert and encourage others to follow these safe driving tips.
To encourage safe driving, we will be distributing “You’ve been caught driving safe” tickets. When you receive the ticket, you or your student can drop it off in the front office for a chance to win a Starbucks gift card. Names will be pulled regularly and announced in the Weekly Bulletin.
Thank you in advance for following these tips and improving the safety around our school.

Counselors Connection
Kindergarten is off to a great start this year! Students have established their understanding of W.A.V.E expectations and are settling into their classroom routines.
In math, we have learned numbers 0 - 10 and have started to work on decomposing numbers up to 5. Students have been developing their number sense skills as we practice using ten frames, counting with manipulatives and showing one more and less.
In ELA we have started strong with our writing by practicing writing everyday with sentence frames and learning sentence structure. We have also focused on building our foundational skills with rhyming words, syllables, and our concepts of print.
We are all excited to see where this year takes us and can’t wait to see the growth in our students!
