SWHS Ramps Up School Spirit Ahead of Homecoming Football Game
Southwest High School continues to celebrate Homecoming 2022 by kicking off Friday morning with a high-energy pep rally! The Dragons showed off their school spirit with entertainment provided by Student Council members, Dragonfire Dance Team, the Southwest Dragon Band, and as always, the students and faculty were pumped up by the Southwest Dragon Cheerleaders.
Homecoming festivities continue with the Southwest Dragon vs Eagle Pass CC Winn football game starting at 7p.m. at Southwest Stadium and the Southwest vs South San volleyball game at the Southwest High School competition gym at 6 p.m.

SA Philarmonic Musically Delights SWISD Elementary Students
Students from around the District enjoyed a performance of Scheherazade: A Literary Adventure from the San Antonio Philharmonic as part of the Young People’s Concerts series. The free admission concerts are part of an 80-year tradition to bring symphonic music to local communities.
SWISD Water Polo Teams Go Head to Head
Another historic win at the the SWISD Aquatic Center as water polo teams from Southwest Legacy and Southwest high schools battled it out this past Monday. It was a nail-biter of a game as the boys went head to head. SWHS beat SWL 10 - 9 with a late goal in overtime. The Lady Titans take the win against the Lady Dragons, 19 - 5. Penguin Project
SWISD Penguin Project mentors attended a Mentor Boot Camp this week. Students participated in several activities that allowed them to learn how to be successful as peer mentors to our actors. Special guest, Dr. Morgan, the founder of the Penguin Project from Peoria, Illinois led the session.
Hidden Cove STEAM Academy Adds A Spanish Flair to Classwork for Hispanic Heritage Month
As we celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, HCSA 6th grade scholars are working on a biography of a person of importance from Latin culture. Students are currently conducting research so that they can share their work with their campus and community. The United Nations 17 Sustainable Developmental Goals include #4 - Quality Education. The objective for this goal is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. At Hidden Cove Steam Academy, students are encouraged to not only embrace and celebrate their own culture, but learn from other cultures.
SWISD's Teachers New To Teaching Program Showcased to Education Leaders
Dr. McAndrew, Executive Director of Teachers New to Teaching and Dr. McClellan, Executive Director of Talent Management presented SWISD's Teachers New To Teaching Program to a standing room only crowd at the txEDCON22 conference. The program focuses on giving much needed support to SWISD's first year teachers. Now in its fifth year, the one-of- a-kind program has maximized teacher retention and gained state-wide recognition. SWISD Police Officers Run in Honor of 9/11 Victims and Heroes
Last weekend our SWISD Police Department police officers ran a 5k, 9/11 Hero’s Run in full uniform at Texas A&M University- San Antonio to honor all first responders who gave their life protecting & serving. "We honor also their families, local, 9/11 and throughout the nation." said Sgt. Arredondo. Next year, the group plans to climb the Towers of the America's.
