Rankin Bulletin
September 14, 2015 - Bulletin #2
Our first week is a wrap!
It felt like a great first week for students and they seemed to fall into the Rankin routines very well! I appreciate your visibility at the start of the day and end of the day assisting with students finding their way! A special thanks to those that assisted with PBS expectations as this went great this past week.
As an update, we are currently at 314 “attending” students. This is lower than the past few years by about 30. Last year at this time we had 346. Unfortunately the district has decided to eliminate a section here at Rankin. On Friday afternoon, I moved the students from Mrs. LaForest's classroom and placed them in our other 4th and 5th grade classrooms. I wish Mrs. LaForest the best as she moves to an open position at Dye. Our 4th and 5th grade classrooms will be very full but please remain as positive as possible about these large numbers. We do not need anyone else leaving Rankin.
This Week In Review
Tuesday: FAC @ 8:00; I will be out of the building for the G.A.S. Meeting @ 9:30; Parent Club @ 4:15
Thursday: Constitution Day
Friday: Fire Drill
STAR Testing
STAR Testing begins this week. I have created a schedule for the use of the lab on Monday and Thursday this week and next week on Monday and Wednesday to complete STAR testing. I have been notified that the system is all set to go. The schedule is attached to this email. You may also complete testing using the Chromebooks. However, we will need to keep two chromebooks in the lab to accommodate the students from our new larger classrooms.
EveryDay Math Training
Kathy sent out Everyday Math training information for 3 - 5 teachers. Rankin will be hosting the trainings here in the computer lab on September 15th (AM and PM) and September 16th (AM). EveryDay Math journals have been delivered. If you have not gotten your Home Links they are boxed and in the office. The EveryDay Math curriculum is a spiral curriculum. It is everyone’s responsibility to teach their part so that students are prepared for the next grade level. Neither the journals nor the Home links are optional. They are a requirement of CA’s math curriculum. Kathy can provide support on how best to use them if you have questions.
Constitution Day Reminder..
Just a reminder that Thursday, September 17th is Constitution Day. The law requires that all students be provided instruction with regards to the constitution. Please plan appropriately for this.
Nice Weather recess
If you are taking your class outside for a “class recess”, please inform the office. We like to know where classes are should a parent arrive to pick up a student. If you take your cell phone outside with you please let us know the number and we can use that to contact you should the office need to. Remember, Kristina is the only person in the office after 2 and can not go get a student.
