A Message from the Leadership Team
Adult Education
September 26 to October 1 is National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week. National Adult Education and Family Literacy week is an opportunity for us all to promote the adult education programs that we offer throughout our school district. In Collier County, we serve over 4,000 adult students in ESOL, ABE and GED programs every year. By promoting Literacy Week through our Adult Education Programs, we positively impact our community. Consider the following:
- The level of education a mother has attained, directly affects the academic success of her children.
- Nearly 30% of adults with household incomes at or below the poverty line do not have high school credentials.
- Education levels had more effect on earnings over a 40-year span than any other demographic factor, such as gender, race, and Hispanic origin.
Book Donations are being accepted in the Media Center for anyone interested in donating. LWTH Book Club students have generously volunteered to help distribute the books the week of September 26th. Tables will be set-up in LWTC lobby.
Below are a list of all the literacy events that will take place September 26 to October 1, so you can start spreading the word to your students.
- All week - book tables, with free books, will be setup in the LWTC lobby.
- Tuesday, September 27, 2016, Collier County Public Library South Branch will visit GGH for a Family Literacy Event.
- Wednesday, September 28, 2016, Collier County Public Library Main Branch hosts Family Literacy Night 5:30 - 7:00 PM
- Thursday, September 29, 2016, Barnes & Nobles hosts Family Literacy Night 6:00 - 7:30 PM
- Friday, September 30, 2016, "Student Campus Connection" event - wear your favorite sports jersey. There will be music, hot dogs, chips and water during all lunches in the courtyard.
Remember to arrive at least 15 minutes early to get your attendance sheets and to greet your students as they arrive to class. Someone will come around and pick up your attendance sheets once class has started. We look forward to another prosperous year for Community Education.
An email is forthcoming to ask you for your teaching schedule for Winter 1 and 2. We will be combining the class schedule books. Be sure to adhere to the deadlines.
