WHAT: To know what your learning goals are and what you need to do to achieve them

· Everyone has goals they are working towards – kids and adults

· If you do not have learning goals, then you do not know what you are learning and why

· By having a learning goal, you are aiming to improve your learning

· Kids who set their own learning goals, tend to achieve more!

Welcome to the end of week 3. Another very busy and enjoyable week at Vogeltown. We have had lots of extra activities happening over the week with Middles visits to Puke Ariki, Rippa Rugby tournament, Whanau Gumboot throw and Pink Shirt day today!

It is great to be able to offer such varied 'extra curricula activities' and 'Education outside of the classroom' for our Vogeltown kids. A big thanks to all families for supporting the school with these activities, especially when we are asking for money to assist.

Next week we have another busy week with our Class Reps going away very early Monday morning with Mr George and Miss Bleasdale to Palmerston North to be part of the 'NZ Young Leaders' conference. I know they will get a lot out of this event!

We also have our 'Dads and Daughters' breakfast on Thursday morning. This is an awesome event to get our Dad's, who predominately can not get in to school in the mornings, to come for breakfast cooked for you by the VS staff, New Plymouth Police and served by NPBHS prefects and some of the Taranaki Rugby union boys. A note came home about this over the week. Please can you fill in the form on this sheet (or on the school app) so we know numbers for catering purposes.

A reminder that we have our Board of Trustees nominations open. If you know anyone who is keen to come on the Vogeltown Board of Trustees, then please fill out a nomination form (with their permission) and hand in to the senior office.

We have another inter-school exchange next week against Spotswood Primary and Spotswood. We hope to keep up the winning streak we are on.

Interschool dates:

23 May - vs Spotswood Primary (at Spotswood). Games start 11.45am

6 June - vs Welbourn Primary (at VS) Games start 11.45am

27 June - vs Woodleigh School (at VS) Games start 11.45am

Thanks to everyone who put some effort in to 'Pink Shirt day' today. There were some amazing ensembles around the school (see the photos below).

Pink Shirt day is a day to remind us to be nice to each other. It is a major part of our school vision - Manaaki tangata, Care for the people. We try to do this everyday at school and role model how we want everyone to be treated.

Kia Ora whanau

At present we have 21 ukuleles at Vogeltown School. There are 35 Senior children that would like to join our ukulele club for 2019. If you have a spare uke or 2 lying around at home, that you haven’t used for a while, maybe you could donate it to our school. It would be very much appreciated.

Mr G

A reminder about this wonderful learning and fundraising opportunity. This is a major fundraising event and we ask that you assist us. Students are asked, with your permission, to ask others out of your immediate family to sponsor them per word or gift a monetary donation to the school. Each child will be tested next week!. They will need this sheet to be with them at school, then the score sheet will be returned so that money can be collected,. There are spot prizes in three categories, plus the child who raises the most money is also recognised! Yahoo!!

Please add learning these maths problems each night in your child’s homework… just a few each night will soon build up great knowledge. Thanks whanau

Yesterday was the National Support Staff day. At Vogeltown we have 14 Support Staff who do an amazing job and we could not operate the school without!

Mrs J-Low, Mrs Wolfe, Mrs Anderson, Mrs Sleep (junior), Mrs Baunton, Mrs Smith, Miss Cragg, Mrs Buckland, Mrs Agar, Mrs Harlan, Mrs Tait, Mrs Hay, Mrs Timanus and Mr McAuley!

Thanks to this amazing team - they never get enough credit for the work they do around the school and with the students! Thanks team!

With all the roadworks happening along Huatoki street, it has got a bit beaten up!

The New Plymouth District Council have decided to re-do Huatoki street including the frontage of the Vogeltown Senior school, the pedestrian crossing and the footpaths surrounding the senior and junior school sites. The council want to hear some ideas from the community about Huatoki street - especially in relation to access to and from school for our students.

There is consultation hui evening on the 29th May from 5.30 - 6.30pm in the Senior school staffroom if you want to come along and have your say.

Today we had the Whanau Gumboot throw - a very important day on the school calendar! Thanks to Mr Stirling for his organisation of this event.

The kids did very well with the pre-lims yesterday and the finals today. It was a close race between the whanau teams - so close it came down to a 'throw off' between Kakariki and Kowhai whanau. Miss Bleasdale throwing for Kowhai and Mrs Treadway for Kakariki. Miss Bleasdale sent an enormous throw to set up the 2019 Gumboot throw win for Kowhai! Well done to all our 'gumboot throwers'.

Well done to these Vogeltowners who received a Principal Award at Assembly today:

1) Please Dad's make sure you get some morning time off and bring your daughter in to school and join us for breakfast next Thursday morning! We will not burn the toast!

2) There are some more roadworks on Huatoki street again. This is going to continue for the next 3 weeks. Please show courtesy and patience as we deal with these hold ups.

3) Even though we currently only have one sign for Road Patrol, as the other one was smashed by a car, we ask for your patience and courtesy as we do not have the normal signage we use to stop traffic for our crossing. If you are driving along, please stop for our road patrollers.
