About the Learning Commons

The ECMA Learning Commons houses the library, a full laptop lab and a Maker Space with robots, tablets, building kits, circuit kits, a take apart station, mobile art cart, and more.

Students visit the Learning Commons each week to take advantage of the lab and to check out books in order to increase Lexile scores. Meeting grade level Lexile scores are proven to increase test scores in all subjects.

Mrs. Brookins is the Learning Commons teacher and provides support for all students and staff as well as teaches library, research and technology skills.

About the Makerspace

Every Makerspace is unique but ALL should provide opportunities for students to use their hands and knowledge to CREATE, using things like computers, learning kits, art supplies, etc. Making allows students to problem solve, push boundaries, learn how to overcome failure and work together with others.

The ECMA Makerspace currently has 2 Ozobots, 2 Spheros, Lego kits, 3 circuit kits, laptops, tablets, How To books for drawing, origami and art, art supplies, challenge supplies and more.

The Maker Space Club meets on Tuesday mornings from 8:00 to 8:45 to work independently as well as tackle team building STEAM challenges.

Technology Tips

MCSD Guest Network Password: mcsdguest

Infinite Campus/Gradebook login information:

*At HOME you MUST use Firefox to login. At school you can use Firefox or Chrome.

Download Firefox HERE

Download Chrome HERE

*After typing in your GTID and school password, you may be asked to type in a code. The code IS case sensitive and it is difficult to tell if some letters (such as v, w, x, l, s, o, c, and z) are to be capital or lowercase. If you get any of these letters, REFRESH the code until you can easily tell and type that code in.

About your Media Specialist/Learning Commons Teacher

Mrs. Brookins has been the ECMA Media Specialist for 6 years and LOVES her job. In her spare time she enjoys reading, shopping, photography, and just spending quality time with her husband, Chris, and her 4 year old daughter, Leah. Mrs. Brookins played soccer for over 10 years before a knee injury put her on the sideline but she did coach the ECMA girls team in 2012 and they had a winning season! Some of her favorite books are: The Martian, The Night Circus, The Raven Cycle series, The Chaos Walking series and My Lady Jane. She enjoys a variety of genres but her favorite is YA Fantasy. One of her favorite challenges is suggesting a new book for you to read so if you can't find something, just ask! Her favorite candy is Reese Cups or anything sour!

Mrs. Brookins looks forward to having you visit the Learning Commons to read, research, have class, print, catch up on your work, and tinker with technology!
