Bear Cub Bulletin

Monthly Wilmore Elementary Communication for Families

March Edition 2023

Big picture

Message from Ms. Thompson

This month is full of opportunities for our students to showcase their talents and academic achievements. Check out what we have already celebrated and what's to come.

We have already celebrated our school raising more than $250,000 throughout the years that Mr. Sandberg has led the Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser. This year he has challenged our students to raise $10,000! Help us achieve this goal and reach the Top 10 in our state!

We enjoyed learning from the students and staff at Jessamine Career and Technical Center, as our Bear Cubs explored different pathways that they will be invited to choose from when they enter high school in JCS. Our Jump Rope Club showcased their talents to kick off this year's American Heart Association: Kids Heart Challenge fundraiser. We celebrated and loved seeing the Wilmore Elementary students that participated in the JCS All County Elementary Choir. Ask Mrs. Stringer if you would like to see the video recording.

We are looking forward to kicking off our first nine week award recognition celebration with a student driven twist. Students will bring home their 3rd Nine Weeks report card on Friday, March 24th. Please sign and return the brown envelope so your child's teacher can confirm that the caregiver received the report card. We are hosting our annual Arts Showcase (see below for details) and kicking off our first school-wide Data Day. To wrap up March, we will enjoy the 5th Grade Showcase: From the Inside Out and have two opportunities for lunch visitors.

Thanks to our PTO, we are celebrating Camp Read S'more throughout March. Students are invited to take their finger flashlights (provided to every child by the PTO) to our "campground" in the Hall of Flags and read a book of their choice during their scheduled visit. It is a wonderful and unique way to encourage students to snuggle up with a book!

Check out the rest of the Bear Cub Bulletin to stay up-to-date and connected to our and your Bear Cubs!

Eating Lunch with Your Child

Each month we will share communication about hosting visitors in the cafeteria. We will reserve a special location in our hall of flags or the Memory Garden (weather permitting) for you and your child. We want you to enjoy your child and learn more about their school experience, so we will not invite friends to be included in the special lunch. This is to protect our students and their dietary needs.

We now accept debit/credit payments, any caregiver or visitor will need to bring EXACT CHANGE with either cash or check if paying with cash. We are NOT able to make change. If exact change is not provided, any change due will be deposited onto the student's account.

**Any adult or visitor meals (including children) are $2.90 for Breakfast and $4.85 for Lunch. Meals are provided to all JCS students at NO COST.

All visitors MUST check-in at the front office through our Raptor Technology system and will be invited to the cafeteria only. Please plan to exit the school when your child's homeroom teacher picks up their class.

5th Grade Showcase: From the Inside Out

We are so excited that our specials team is collaborating to create a 5th grade showcase this year! Our students will perform on Wednesday, March 29th.

Families and special guests are invited to enjoy the show at 1:00 on Wednesday, March 29th.

Our 5th grade students will be invited to have lunch visitors on this day. We know that some of our 5th graders have younger siblings and visitors may want to eat lunch with the younger siblings as well. Please communicate with your child's teacher if this is the plan for your family on Wednesday, March 29th.

5th graders will be invited to host a data chat after the 1:00 performance with any of their visitors. Data day will be on Thursday, March 30th for all other grade levels, but we want families to have an opportunity to see their child's data while they are in the building without feeling obligated to return the following day.

Volunteering at Wilmore Elementary

If you are interested in volunteering at Wilmore during the 2022-2023 school year, please complete the school level and district level forms. You can submit the district level form to Casey in the front office and she will turn it into the district or you can submit directly to Teresa Walters at the district level. We will confirm that your background check is complete after the district has completed their volunteer checklist.

If you plan to support your child's classroom during celebrations, field trips, or special events at WES, we must have your volunteer forms on file.

Data Day on Thursday, March 30th

Come visit us on Thursday, March 30th between 7 AM-5 PM to see school-wide data and hear your child reflect on his/her data, including academic and behavioral goals. This is a Title I event and we would love your support.

Mrs. Adams and Ms. Thompson will showcase school-wide data, goals, and opportunities for growth in the library. Enjoy refreshments as you move throughout the library to learn more about our curriculum, iReady school success, Dojo data, Office Discipline Referral data, and highlighting opportunities for growth.

Once you've visited the library, you are invited to go to your child's classroom, knock on the door, motion for your child to come to the desk located in the hallway, and enjoy a student-led conference. We appreciate you respecting the classroom instruction that is continuing throughout the day. If you wish to speak to your child's teacher, reach out for a traditional conference outside of the school hours.

March 30th is a Lunch Visitor day at WES, so if you wish, you can complete your Data Day chats before or after your child's lunch time.

We look forward to showcasing school and student success! Check out the flyer below.
