Reading Workshop
We began setting up procedures for reading workshop this week and had some great discussions about "Just Right" books for us. Choosing the "just right" book is so important for our reading. Once we practiced choosing the "just right" books for ourselves, we worked in groups to produce commercials using the green screen to show what we have learned. Below is a sneak peek at a few of our videos.
Next week we will turn our attention to real vs. fake reading, what it means to be thinking while we read, and setting our reading goals.
We will also visit the library on Monday.
Writing Workshop
Students working on comparing/contrasting themselves with classmates
Chase and A.J. completing a Venn Diagram to share their comparisons
Erin and Claire discussing why their books are "just right" for them.
Math Workshop
In addition to this, we worked on creating "Figure Me Out" posters. Each student came up with their own math problems to describe themselves. For example, if a student is 9 years old, they created a math problem that would equal 9.
Next week we will begin our first Everyday Math Unit. We will explore numbers all around us, how to use the number chart and our resource books. We will also begin our math time tests. Don't forget to practice this at home.
Esio Trot
Students posted facts they learned about tortoises.
