End of Quarter 1 & Parent-Teacher Conferences

This week marks the end of our first quarter at AGMS. We have enjoyed a quarter full of learning opportunities, meeting new teachers, and growing both academically and socially.

Wednesday, October 18th is an incredibly important day for our teachers and students. Parent-Teacher Conferences offer the opportunity for teachers and parents to visit about academic progress, strategies that will help your student continue to find success, and offer you an opportunity to ask any questions you might have regarding coursework. In addition, teachers appreciate the opportunity to meet parents face-to-face.

Below you will find a link to sign up for Middle School conferences. Please note, we want you to come! If there are no spots available at your preferred time, you can still come! Our core teachers will be located in the Middle School/High School Cafeteria and ready to see you.

Here is the link to sign up for conferences on Wednesday, October 18th from 1:30-8:45 PM

Middle School Student Council & Nature Club Travels to Sunken Gardens

On Oct. 5th, the Student Council and Nature Club visited Sunken Gardens in Lincoln. The purpose of the visit was to get some landscaping and planting ideas for the school pollinator garden and outdoor classroom we hope to develop between the Middle School and High School over the next few years. These students are hoping teachers and students from both buildings will be able to utilize this space for scientific study, quiet meditation, and artistic inspiration for a variety of school subjects. Anyone with physical resources or landscape design knowledge they can contribute should contact Lona Pinkall to see how you can help. All assistance and suggestions for making this project successful are appreciated.

From the Desk of Ms. Washburn, School Counselor

Recently the middle school began a project titled The Let Grow Experience. The idea behind this project is that working independently increases self-confidence in one's abilities. This has also been linked to lowering anxiety as students gain practice in solving problems on their own.

Another idea that is related to the benefits of exploring is in the link below. It comes from the work of Angela Duckworth on the topic of grit. The main idea in this short article is that it may be beneficial to let kids try many different activities rather than trying to specialize in one area. Middle school is the perfect time to do this!
