Timberwolf Times
Volume 5, Issue 28 - February 26, 2023
A Message from Dr. Lowry
Timberwolf Family,
WE DID IT!!! The PTA and I would like to thank you all for your enthusiasm and support for our “I WANT MY RECESS" Fundraiser. With your help, we met our goal and raised over $15,000 for our sunshade.
PTA was busy this week not only with the fundraiser, but also awarding 3 PTA Honorary Life Membership Awards to the following individuals: Tracy Lutes, Jennifer Gerdes and Jurie Folse. This award is one of the highest forms of recognition a PTA can award to a person who has shown superior dedication to our children and community. A huge thank you to all three of these very deserving individuals.
Additionally, make sure you take some time to review this week's Timberwolf Times as it includes lots of important information about soccer tryouts, 8th Grade Snow Ball Dance/Celebration, and our World of WC Sports flyer which includes information about upcoming track and field meets.
Have a wonderful week & GO TIMBERWOLVES!

HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT, ABUSE, AND VIOLENCE PREVENTION INSTRUCTION
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and Senate Bill 9, students enrolled in junior high physical education (PE) or Athletics will receive instruction in Human Growth and Development. Topics will include the physical changes resulting from puberty, as well as personal hygiene, abuse, abstinence, and prevention of communicable and noncommunicable diseases. Katy ISD junior high school counselors will teach the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence prevention.
The purpose of the curriculum is to provide students with information about how to deal with the challenges of early adolescence and to supplement the efforts of parents as they educate and support their teens.
Under Texas statute, parents must choose to “opt-in” their child to participate in the lessons that address human growth and development, abuse, and violence prevention. Beginning on March 27 through April 6, parents may elect to opt-in their child to participate in the lessons via an electronic link provided by the District.
Below is the opt-in window as well as the time frame when lessons will be taught:
- Parent Opt-In Window - March 27-April 6
- Instruction Window - May 1 - May 19
All lessons are aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and meet the requirements that are mandated by the state. Parents have the right to review the curriculum materials on each individual campus by request.
This content is intended to initiate conversations between you and your child about the physical, emotional, and social changes that occur during adolescence. In addition, awareness and education on abuse and violence are key to prevention and intervention. It is a priority for Katy ISD to partner with our families and community to create a safety net for our students.
