Hi CG Families,
Holiday season is fast approaching. Before you know it, we will be having to write 2022 on everything. While the holidays can bring joy and excitement to many, it can also be a reminder of those loved ones who are no longer here with us. It can be very difficult for a child to be able to express this in words so here are some behaviors that they may exhibit instead.
1. They may not be able to sleep.
2. They may have difficulty concentrating, even on things they enjoy.
3. They may be clingy or be anxious about things that have never bothered them before.
4. They may have changes in behavior.
If you think that your child may be struggling, here are some things you can do to help.
1. Let them talk to you about their feelings and be able to get it all out.
2. Let them know how you feel as well so they can see they are not alone.
3. Come up with some ways to remember their loved one during the holidays.
4. Realize that while children are resilient, they have suffered a loss and need time to come to terms with it.
Counseling may also be an option that you may want to explore. We are blessed in this community to have some amazing counselors along with some organizations that help with the grief process.
Please feel free to reach out if you would like more information.
As always, I hope each of you have a wonderful month and are able to spend time with family and friends.
Take care,
Dana
