SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE
December 2018
A Peek at our December Weeks...
The "Fun Facts" above are a quick glimpse into your middle level learners brain!! I try to keep that in mind as we work through our school days, projects and expectations!!
As a class we have decided it would be fun to celebrate the holidays with each other by EVERYONE participating in our Secret Santa celebration. We've gone over the "parameters" all together and selected names (THESE STAY A SECRET UNTIL THE DAY OF THE REVEAL). Here are the details:
- GIFTS: range from homemade item or a purchased item no more than $5!
- Thoughtful choice of how the item can connect to your person!
- All items brought in are wrapped and labeled with name of person who is to receive the gift! (Do not put your name on it :)
- All Secret Santa gifts are due to the classroom by TUESDAY 12/18
WRITING
We have been working on informational writing (Safari Letter) and free writing with our Writer's Notebooks and also a bit more of a focus on "editing". Students have been engaged in "Editing Everyday" working to recognize errors in written work.
Class Spirit!! A quick glimpse at Ugly Sweater Day! :)
WONDER - Read Aloud
We've continued to read Wonder by RJ Palacio. We've focused in on various literary elements such as character traits and the events within the story have ignited some great discussion.
We are scheduled to finish up with the novel at the end of this week and then celebrate with a comparison of watching the film.
- Reading aloud is one of the most important things parents and teachers can do with children. Reading aloud builds many important foundational skills, introduces vocabulary, provides a model of fluent, expressive reading, and helps children recognize what reading for pleasure is all about.
- Reading aloud to children gives them the opportunity to try on the language and experience of others
RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS...
We'd like to thank 8th Grader Ellie Cox for sharing her baking talents with us on Tuesday! Ellie has a passion for baking and made homemade Christmas cookies and icing....while leading us skillfully through some cookie decoration!!
YUM! Thanks Ellie!!
