ELD Think Tanks: October 27 & October 30, 2017
Mark your calendars for October 27 or October 30, 2017! Our first smaller group ELD Think Tanks will begin this month. As we would like to meet in feeder groups, you are assigned a specific day to attend. Please see this document for specific information and session assignments. The next ELD Think Tank will begin at 8:30 am, and it will end at 3:00 pm. Please attend the session for your feeder, and arrive between 8:15-8:30 am at the Library’s Event Hall.
Session #1 is at Lone Tree Library 10055 Library Way, Lone Tree, CO 80124.
Session #2 is at Parker Library 20105 Mainstreet Parker, CO 80134. We ask that you do not enter the Event Hall prior to 8:15 am as we will need the area to be clear to set up the seating. HERE is a map containing each location.
Prior to the Think Tank
Please review the DCSD ELD Programming guide prior to attending the Think Tank. What are some of the programming options you use at your school? What kind of EL (NEP/LEP/FEP Y1-2) benefits from each of the programming options?
** We have been asked to park in the Target parking garage.
Please Bring:
All ESL teachers
Please bring your own lunch. In order to finish at 3:00 pm, we will have a working lunch. You will not have a break to leave the library to grab food. We will reassess your preferences after this Think Tank. In the future, if we do have a 45 minute break to leave the site for lunch, we will need to extend our meeting to 3:45 pm.
Bring an ESL lesson that you love to teach! Be prepared to share electronically or paper copies with the breakout group.
If you have started a “Share My Story” lesson or activity, please be prepared to offer your experience or ideas. As a department we will be focusing on this theme throughout the 2017-2018 school year and incorporate it into our ESL Celebration.
Your ALPINE link and log-in information.
High School teachers - In addition to the above lesson share, please bring at least one content co-teaching resource or lesson to share. For example, if you have found books or websites that are NEP friendly and that complement the high school biology curriculum that would be a great resource to share. Or if you have developed a powerpoint to help accommodate ELs in algebra that would be an appropriate lesson to share.
ELD Think Tanks are required for all ELD specialists. If you are a secondary or kindergarten teacher, and you require a sub, please code your request as "ELD-Other Training".
If you are unable to attend, please notify Remy Rummel and Cindy Close, and connect with your ELD Lead to obtain information and complete action steps.

Newsela Webinar October 31, 2017
We will host the 2nd of 3 webinars on Tuesday, October 31 at 3:00pm EST. The focus of this session will be on using Newsela to support planning and instruction across content areas and throughout the year. You are welcome to join the webinar at the Support Session, or view on your own. We will be recording this session. If you are a Newsela Pro user, you are required to view the webinar at some point before Thanksgiving break.
Please register for our webinar with this link: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/1991816277495498243
Please read this message from Newsela:
If all your educators will be in the same room, you can register and project the session for everyone. If anyone wants to attend remotely or join the webinar to ask their questions via the live chat feature, they can do that as well by registering with the same link. Either way, educators must have a device in front of them to get the most out of the workshop and practice what they are seeing.
Once you register, you will receive a confirmation email that provides details about how to get connected and how to test the webinar software in advance.
