Happy New Year!

This January, we start a new calendar year and will continue our present journey through the school year 2022-23. We have accomplished so much already, but we have so much left to do. The entire staff here at Silver Lake is dedicated to providing the best possible education for every student. We have high expectations that every student will grow and experience success in learning.

“New year is the glittering light to brighten the dream-lined pathway of the future.

~Munia Khan

I was recently reminded how each new year is a time to reflect and review our hopes and dreams. This quote really resonates with me and I look forward to being a partner with you in the journey toward the dream-lined pathway of the future. Let’s use this "glittering light” of new beginnings.

Cheers to 2023!

In partnership,

Silver Lake Principal, Theresa Campbell

Safety

SLE students and staff are going to practice Lockout skills in January. We are attaching the procedures for both lockdown and lockout protocols for your information:
Big picture

Walk-Around: We have some exciting changes in our arrival procedures. In November we piloted Walk-Around in the covered area during arrivals to school and received an very positive feedback from the students and staff. The plan is to have Walk-Around before school starts for the remainder of the school year.

SLE team would like to encourage the parents and guardians to dress the children according to the weather. We know that the weather is unpredictable sometimes and interchangeable, but having appropriate clothing and accessories helps the students to be safe during recess, arrival/dismissal, and throughout the school day. Thank you!

Feedback from the families: SLE Family Engagement committee is looking into ways to increase communication and partnerships with our families. If you did not have a chance to fill a Parent Survey, please, do. This information is very helpful for our planning and meeting the needs of the students and their families. We appreciate your feedback! The link to the survey: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=8I4VpoVPDUulmZJQl_d7PUMob41SbthDsY0hX8SjsrpURTE1V0lIQ1hPNlRBWUhJREI1Sk1YUThJQy4u

FROM THE COUNSELOR

Welcome to the New Year, Mustangs! I’m so excited to see what 2023 will bring us. It has already been a fantastic school year and I totally expect the end of the year to be just as great!

Upon returning to school, we will be reminding each other of our 4 Schoolwide Expectations – Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be Kind. There will be a student-produced video by our 5th grade leadership team showing examples of expectations, daily trivia, and even a schoolwide assembly! Please ask your students about what the expectations are at school in different areas like the classroom, hallways, and bathrooms.

I will also be starting our Child Protection Unit in Kindergarten classes. Parents should have received a letter with details about this curriculum that came through Blackboard in December. I’m so excited to get to know our youngest students and work with them on Recognizing, Reporting, and Refusing any unsafe or unwanted touch.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or could use assistance at this time. I’m always here to help!

First Semester Ends Soon!

This is a reminder first semester ends February 3. Report cards and Elementary Progress Reports will be both online and mailed/distributed by February 17.

MUSTANG MILERS

Mustang Milers is starting for the 2022-2023 school year! Mustang Milers is a running club organized around the activity of running, with a focus on promoting the wellbeing of our students at Silver Lake. The club encourages fitness, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude!

We meet every Friday morning from 8:25-8:55 in the gym, or weather permitting, in the undercover area. Students need to wear appropriate footwear and a permission slip needs to be signed by family and returned prior to joining Mustang Milers. AM transportation is not provided, however families can drop off students in the back parking lot at 8:25. Any questions or concerns can be shared with Mrs. Farrell (afarrell@everettsd.org) or Ms. Cleland (eclealnd@everettsd.org). We hope to see your student there!

FROM SILVER LAKE PTA

Silver Lake Elementary PTA 7.3.45 Newsletter - Edition 3 - January 2023

We hope everyone had a great winter break!

We are looking for people interested in joining us on next year’s Board. Two of our Board members are parents of fifth graders and will be leaving us next year, so we will need to fill at least two Board positions. If you want to get involved with school, meet new people, and help us ensure your kids have a memorable and fun elementary school experience, consider volunteering for a Board position! You can find more information about the value of PTA and the open Board positions for next year on our website, see the link below, or contact us any time.

We are always accepting general volunteers, too. If you think you’d be good at, or would enjoy helping out with any PTA sponsored events (see our website, or ask your student’s teacher), please know that even just 30 minutes of your time makes a HUGE difference and impacts the lives of our students. There’s no minimum time commitment required for volunteers, and there is a lot that can be done from home! An example of an upcoming project is our Candy Grams. We will also need help with the school dance in April. If you’re interested in more information about volunteering at any time throughout the year, please contact us!

We are still offering in-person meetings with childcare. Our next meeting is on January 26th at 7pm.

You can find information on all things PTA on our website, www.silverlakepta.weebly.com.
