School News (NEW)
Hello Sunnyside Families,
Happy end of the school year! This week was a blast with our plant sale on Tuesday (shout out to Nathan), our breakdancing assembly today, and of course, all of our fun field trips and field study.
Middle school travelled to Forest Park, the waterfront, Portland Art Museum, and Laurelhurst. In addition, some of our 8th graders are creating a mural along with the local artist Munta and adding to the beautification of our middle school hallways. There was also a 5th grade roller skating trip and several other classes visited the zoo and the park. We CANNOT do this without all of our parent volunteers so THANK YOU!
I am thrilled to announce that as of today, we received word from the district that we are going to receive a 1.0 restorative justice student success advocate for Sunnyside next year. We cannot be more thrilled to have this position and we look forward to supporting our students together next year.
As the year winds down, I just want to express my gratitude for this exemplary staff that I get to work with every day, these students that never cease to amaze me with their kindness and joy, and you all for all your support and care.

Dear 6th and 7th grade families.....
True to the great sense of community that Sunnyside has fostered over the many years our children attend school together, it's a tradition that 6th and 7th grade families come together to create a loving 8th Grade Promotion ceremony. Our collaboration is a gift to the 8th graders whose accomplishments and contributions are numerous to our community, their families, and our school. It is a pay it forward gift that we will receive when our children celebrate their promotion.
The 2023 Sunnyside 8th Grade Promotion is Monday, June 12 from 6-8 pm in the Franklin High School auditorium (on the corner of SE 52nd and SE Woodward). Our job is to coordinate the festivities beforehand and help in both the set up and clean/tear down the day of the event so the 8th graders and their families can relax and celebrate. We ask that ALL 6th & 7th grade families help make this a memorable occasion for our 8th graders and their families.
8th grade parents are encouraged to come participate in the making of flower crowns. Monday, June 12th from 9am-noon in the art room.
Save the Date: June 9 - Last PTSA Meeting of the Year! (NEW)
Join us NEXT FRIDAY (June 9) for the last, but certainly not least, meeting of the 2023-2024 school year! At this epic gathering, we will update everyone on the successes of the year, elect new PTSA Board Members, and inspire new folks (you!) to join us in our pursuits to make Sunnyside the very best it can be!
Whether you have come to every meeting, come only on occasion, or never joined us—please make this final meeting a priority. You can even join us virtually!
We will be gathering in Room 102, with fresh coffee from Oblique (bring your own mug!) right after the bell at 8:45 am.
See you there!
Student Chromebook Check In begins Thursday June 8th (NEW)
Please help your students have their Chromebooks, chargers, unneeded hotspots and any other tech extras brought back to SES by June 8th at the latest. Students can return them to their class/core rooms for collection and final processing. This will help us have a successful summer reset and ensure we are all ready for the next year. Students not returning to SES or graduating 5th & 8th graders Chromebooks will be reset and repurposed for this year's rising 2nd graders. Thanks for your help!
Last 2022-23 meet up for parents and caregivers of neurodivergent students (NEW)
Are you a parent or guardian looking to connect with other Sunnyside families with neurodivergent students? So are we! Our last meet up for this school year will be Friday, June 9 @ 9 a.m. at 3405 SE Stark Street. We will meet outside and discuss hopes and goals for next year as well as review how 22-23 went. Please email email@example.com to RSVP, ask questions or, if you cannot attend but are interested in learning more, please email to connect for future meet ups.
Middle School dance: Wednesday, June 14, 6-8 pm
Our end-of-year middle school dance is coming up on the last day of school: Wednesday, June 14 from 6-8 pm. For the dance to happen, we will need chaperones! Sign up here to chaperone or bring snacks. (Chaperones must have active volunteer background checks.)
The dance starts promptly at 6 pm and ends at 8 pm—please make sure students have plans to arrive and leave at these precise times. Permission slips will come home a few days before the event. We request a $5 donation to cover the cost of the dance, but no child will be turned away for lack of funds.

Thank you for coming to the Plant sale!!
The plant sale was so amazing! It was wonderful to see our community out in full enjoying the sun, gardents and ice cream! Thank you Nathan, students and volunteers for all your hard work.
THANK YOU from the Art Room
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all the donations to the Art room. We are feeling the love and support! This week in k-5 Art we are making paper crowns. The creativity that the students are showing is blowing our minds. Here are a few pictures so you can share in the joy and smiles.
Sending positivity, Indigo and Meg
