The Cline Connection
A monthly newsletter to keep parents informed

See you at Clinefest on Saturday!
Counselor's Corner
Mrs. Swift has met with each class to talk about the role of a school counselor. Mrs. Swift is a listener, a person you can trust, a helper, a problem solver, and a friend. She then read the book: "A little scribble spot" by Diane Alber. This is a fun story that introduces emotions to children. I encourage you to watch this with your child and use this as a talking point when your child has trouble expressing their feelings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6BjvatTNzQ
If You Build it, They Will Code!
With a generous grant from the Friendswood Education Foundation, Cline will begin rolling out it’s school-wide robotics program this month! Teachers have been trained and are excited to share the coding challenges with their kids on October 22nd and 25th. This robotics program embodies FISD’s Call to Action and will inspire more students to be interested in STEM related fields. Robotics fosters teamwork, problem-solving, and gives students a space to see themselves as successful coders. We can’t wait to learn and celebrate with each of them.
In our first year, we plan to create 4 robot challenges for all students to take part in. Stay tuned for some great pictures that capture our learning!
Mrs. McCarty leading our STEM committee with a hands-on learning experience to better understand how to implement this school-wide.
Our teachers experiencing what students will be doing for their first challenge.
Don't forget our upcoming Pony Picture night! It's a great night of fun so make sure you get this on your calendar.
Future architects!
Yesterday, Melissa Turnbaugh, the lead PBK architect designing the new Cline Elementary visited with our students. The students presented their work, asked questions about the role of an architect, and solicited her expertise in designing and building structures.
It was amazing to see the energy of the students as they described their ideas. They were given feedback which in turn made them adjust their plans. One example was a planned staircase with drawers and cupboards underneath for storage would have to be moved due to the location of plumbing.
One of the many things learned through this experience was that through communication and collaboration, you can generate more possibilities. Well it looks like it's back to the drawing board! What a great real world learning experience! Thanks to Mrs. McCray for coordinating this and Mrs. Turnbaugh for taking time out of her busy schedule to speak to the students.

Significant muscle pain or ache

If your child begins experiencing any of these symptoms in a way that is not typical, we encourage you to contact your physician. In addition, if anyone in the Cline community is test-confirmed to have COVID-19, please notify your campus nurse.
