Marian Wright Edelman, Ending Child Poverty Now
Founder and President of the Children's Defense Fund, Ms. Edelman has been an advocate for homeless and disadvantaged children for her entire professional life. As the first black woman admitted to the Mississippi Bar, she directed the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund. She was counsel for the Poor People's Campaign under Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and received many honarary awards including the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Robert F. Kennedy Lifetime Achievement Award.
