Swift - Slaybaugh Complex

Principal's Message
This past week our school community observed Presidents' Day and when we returned to the building on Tuesday, we celebrated a once in a lifetime event, 2-22-22, or "Twosday!" These past couple of years we have experienced many changes that we hope are also once in a lifetime events. The good news is that we seem to be getting closer to the normal we used to know. As you already know, starting March 7th, masks will become optional for our students, staff, and visitors. Please know that whatever you choose for you and your family, your decision will be respected.
This coming week we will be celebrating "Read Across America Week." There will be themes for each day, which are listed below. "Literacy for ALL" is one of our district goals and we work toward this each and every day for students, but it is exciting to have a nationwide week dedicated to this important topic. Please encourage your students to participate next week, and above all, please partner with us in spreading a love for, and emphasis on, reading at home like we do here at school. I wish you all a safe and relaxing weekend and we look forward to another busy and successful week at the complex. Take care.
Sincerely,
Joe Marinelli
Principal

January Reading Leaders
In-school reading is vitally important, in January the 2nd grade classroom leader was Mrs. Guerra's class. For 3rd grade it was Mrs. Efstatos' classroom. Both classes will have a special event to celebrate their hard work!
Our at-home reading leaders continue to impress. Our 2nd grade leader this month was Jacelyn Coderre from Mrs. Zompa's class. In 3rd grade Matthew Kim is the leader once again. He is in Mrs. Cochrane's class.
A big THANK YOU goes out to the Swift-Slaybaugh Complex Renaissance Committee who funded the cost of our monthly charm rewards. Students enjoy getting these small prizes each month for working so hard on reaching their reading goals.

Compliments for Kindness!
Mrs. Pellegrini's 2nd grade class was asked by Mrs. Iannello, our guidance counselor, to do "around the room" compliments for Kindness Week.
Each student wrote a compliment to another student and also colored a portrait of that person. Compliments help others to feel noticed and appreciated and it makes us feel happy and proud to receive them. What a great project!
