THERE IS A NEW TUTORING PROGRAM COMING TO ARGYLE

Big picture

Homework in a Cafe is a tested and student approved educational methodology. Our program increases effectiveness and improves students’ performance through the practice of study skills in an after school setting. As a company, they have a single goal - To help students become independent, motivated learners for life. Homework in a Cafe has a vision that aligns everyone - parents, educators and the students towards the same goal. They work toward evaluating and developing the essential skills that are missing in students and have them apply it towards their academics and life. Managing work requires Executive Functions Skills which develop at different ages for different students. For some it comes naturally and others need scaffolding until it becomes natural to them. Typically they see:

Organizational Skills

• Lack of Time-Management

• Trouble Starting or stopping work

• Forgetfulness

• Or Failing Grades.

The program works with student abilities with their motivation level in mind. After initial evaluation, which narrows down what the student needs, they create an Individualized Goal Plan for the student with specific skills they need to work upon. They teach them those skills and then apply those strategies towards homework. If they need further help, they do 1:1 coaching with the student to evaluate the use of strategies. This is achieved through procedures and rules that clearly define expectations, values and culture. They believe that learning is more than grades so they help today’s students to be ready for tomorrow world.
