Horicon Elementary Newsletter
October 2020 Edition
The Principal's Perspective
Dear Horicon Elementary Families,
We have certainly had a unique first month of school and it’s hard to believe it’s already October! We had a great start to our year and appreciate all you do to partner with the school. Thank you for sending fresh face coverings and encouraging your child to practice good hygiene with washing hands and sanitizing. Thank you for your patience and feedback as we adjusted the pick-up procedures and have made other changes as we see what works best for students and staff. We truly appreciate your efforts!
We are looking forward to parent-teacher conferences and the opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and how we can continue to work together. Information will be coming out shortly. Conferences will be either by phone or virtual (Google Meet).
There is so much learning happening every day! Students are excited to be back in school and learning in-person. It’s great to see students loving our beautiful library and checking out great books. Students are also exploring new math and science concepts and working with hands-on materials to help develop a better understanding of the concept. Deep thinking and questioning are happening at high levels in every classroom. I am impressed with the kindness and respect students have shown each day. We are seeing this in every part of our day and we appreciate it!
We are looking forward to a positive, productive year of learning and growing together. Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
Sincerely,
Lisa Sawyer
Horicon Elementary Principal

PTO News
Hello Horicon Families,
We are excited to see students, teachers, and staff back in the halls of Horicon schools. It goes without saying this year has been difficult and challenging in so many ways. The Horicon PTO continues to work at providing students and staff with opportunities for fun and needed items to make the classrooms even more successful. The Horicon PTO has already awarded several mini grants to teachers to help with social distancing and keeping items clean. The PTO is also excited to announce a new, COVID-friendly event this year - Trunk or Treat. More information will be sent home with students as the date gets closer. The PTO also continues to have our monthly meetings in-person and would love to see new faces. Please see below for important upcoming events:
October 1st at 6 pm - PTO meeting (cafeteria)
October 15th - PTO will be serving packaged meals to teachers during conferences. Help is needed
