A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East

A Word From Dr. Clune

Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,

The Art Show is TONIGHT (5/19/23) 5:00 - 8:00PM. Mrs. LePera has been a wonderful addition to our staff this year. Please come out to see some of the incredible projects that our students worked on this year. You will be amazed! This show should not be missed! Trust me.

We also had a phenomenal Orchestra Concert last night directed by Ms. Valerie Smith-Gonzalez. Please come out to our Choral Concert next Thursday night. You don't want to miss it.

There will be 8th Grade Field Day on Wednesday, June 7th. On Friday, June 9th will be the 8th Grade Awards Ceremony and 6th & 7th Grade Field Day. 8th Grade Parents are invited to attend the Awards Ceremony that begins at 8:15AM in the auditorum.

Also be sure to review the Summer Lift Enrichment opportunities. These are incredible learning experiences.

Sincerely,

Seamus Clune, Ph.D.

Sunscreen Lotion Policy

In accordance with Perkiomen Valley School Board Policy 210.2 students may only possess and self-apply non-aerosol topical sunscreen under the conditions outlined below. This policy was updated in 2018 when the PA School Code was amended to include sun protection measures for students.

Students are permitted to possess and self-apply a non-aerosol topical sunscreen without a physician's note or prescription under the following conditions:

  1. Non-aerosol topical sunscreen product is approved by the FDA for over-the-counter use for the purpose of limiting ultraviolet light-induced skin damage.
  2. The parent/guardian submits the parent permission form to the school nurse.
  3. Permission to possess may be revoked if the student fails to comply with school rules concerning the possession, application, and use of the non-aerosol topical sunscreen product.
  4. A parent permission form will need to be completed each school year.

We strongly encourage students to apply sunscreen prior to coming to school for any outdoor events. If your child does need to reapply sunscreen during Field Day and/or any other outdoor school event, the form linked further down must be completed and returned to the school nurse.

If your child does have permission to use sunscreen please remind them that they cannot share this with other students.

If you would like for your child to use sunscreen during the school day, please print, complete, and return this form to our school nurse With this signed form, your child may carry sunscreen into school and self-apply it.

Message from the School Nurse

End of Year Medication Pick Up:

Please remember to obtain your child’s medication from the nurse’s office no later than student dismissal time on June 9, 2023. As per the PVSD Medication Procedure, students are not permitted to carry their own medication. Any unclaimed medication will be destroyed after dismissal. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions.

National Suicide Prevention Hotline

988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.

When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.

The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.

Safe2Say

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.
